Workshop report on the system approach for tomato seedlings and seeds imported from Umpalumpa, focusing on pest categorization, pre-production, production, and post-harvest management. The process includes training farmers, heat treatment of seeds, synchronous planting, harvesting by September, safe storage, and certification procedures to ensure seed quality and biosecurity.

  5. System approach for tomato seedling and seed Quarantine Pests System approach Noplapus scalywingus Occasional blotch virus Sucker bug Terrible plant biosecurity bacterium Pre-production 1. Registration of farmers with sufficient digit numbers which include information 2.Training and GAP (IPM)/ICM) & GMP ( seeds & seedlings selection, proper drainage, sanitation, 3.Heat treatment of seeds over 40 0C to eliminate bacteria and virus.

  6. System approach for tomato seedling and seed Quarantine Pests System apprach Production 1.Application of GAP (IPM)/ICM) & GMP seedlings selection, proper drainage, sanitation, 2. Synchronous planting and one generation only per year 3. Harvesting management by finishing the product before end of September 3.Heat treatment of seeds over 40 0C to eliminate bacteria and virus.

  7. System approach for tomato seedling and seed Quarantine Pests System approach Harvest 1. Selection of seeds & seedlings 2. Harvesting by end of September Post Harvest and Storage 1. Safe storage 2. Store seedlings below 15 0C 3. Seed treatment over 400C. 4. Molecular and serological testing 5. GAP, selection of fruits to obtain seed without contamination of weed seeds 6. Certification incorporating freedom from QP as additional declaration and treatments as special condition 7. On-site survey for every year 4. Virus and bacterial disease 5. Silly sedge 6. Virus and bacterial disease

  8. 2. Export of Tomatoes to Nowayia for Processing and as Dried Tomato

  9. Receive Quarantine pest list from Nowayia: 1. Contorted foot pricker 2. Creaky footed tail trembling mite 3. Curly top crazy virus 4. Exuberant Purple Smotherer 5. Fake internal tomato rotter 6. Fluffy flat snout 7. Wobbly Jelly like slime

  11. Official Letter President of Nowayia, Nowhere, Nowayia Dear Madam President, This is official market access request from LUNAPAIS for the export of fresh tomato for processing and dried tomato to your beautiful desert country. We believe there is no risk except for bacterial disease (Wobbly Jelly like slime) because our export items are tomato processing and dried tomato. Among your quarantine pests, only bacterial disease could be spread via water during the processing procedure. Therefore we would like to suggest the system approach of the tomato for processing and dried tomato, as bellows:

  12. Pre Production Registration of the greenhouse (screen all ven ts and double door) Clean planting stock program (free from CTC V, Wobbly Jelly like slime, False internal tomat o rotter and Weed seeds) Production Integrated disease management program for Wobbly Jelly like slime Harvest Visual inspection for your quarantine pest list during harvesting. Post harvest Exporting inspection and issue the PC (Heat drying for dried tomato) Direct transport to processing facilities. President Lunapais

  13. System approach for fresh tomato for processing and dried tomato

  14. Pre-production 1. Registration of the Glasshouse - Screen all vents, Double door, - training on requirements for export 2. Clean seed and seedling stock program - free from CTCV Wobbly Jelly like slime False internal tomato rotter weed seeds - by PCR or ELISA testing

  15. Production 2. Integrated disease management program for Wobbly Jelly like slime Creaky footed tail trembling mite (recently eradicated in Nowayia)

  16. Harvest 1. Visual inspection for all quarantine pests during harvesting. 2. Remove truss for mite removal (monitoring for first year)

  17. Postharvest <Dried tomato> 1. Heat drying for dried tomatoes 2. Export inspection and Issue the PC <Tomato for processing> 1. Registeration of processing facilities by NPPO of importing country 2. Export inspection and Issue the PC 3. Direct transport to processing facilities. 4. Annual system audit by NPPO of Nowayia

  18. Issues remain unresolved Concern of Industry!! - Removing truss is hard to conduct Negotiation (Round 2) - Alternative method Suggestion : Sticky trap monitoring Chemical control - Nowayia s opinion : organic product, no-truss fruit for processing Review and revision of mandatory removing truss after monitoring in 1styear.
