Emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship in youth sports, the governance framework established in 2013 focuses on response consistency, transparent processes, and effective communication. The Sportsmanship Incident Reporting (SIR) Committee ensures swift actions against poor sportsmanship incidents, providing clear guidelines for addressing misconduct, expediting resolutions, and promoting a culture of respect among officials, clubs, teams, coaches, and players.

  1. Sportsmanship

  2. Sportsmanship Definition: an aspiration or ethos that a sport or activity will be enjoyed for its own sake, with proper consideration for fairness, ethics, respect, and a sense of fellowship with one's competitors. Learning teamwork and sportsmanship are the two most important aspects of participating in youth sports. The value of sportsmanship is an essential part of developing youth athletes into responsible adults Sportsmanship

  3. Sportsmanship Governance (Circa 2013) Situation EOY 2013 Actions Taken Response times varied Chance for remedies to be inconsistent Response patterns recognized by humans as opposed to data Follow-up items tracked by different individuals as opposed to a system SIR Subcommittee formed SIR Processes formalized Standard forms and reports created Weekly review and response rhythm practiced for the 2014 season Sportsmanship

  8. Good Sportsmanship Examples After an intense, hard fought game, Coach Coleman showed great sportsmanship and respect for my players during the post-game handshake line. Despite losing the game, Don made a point to personally congratulate each of my players instead of just rushing through the line as is often the case (Boys U13A). We (Girl s U-15) do not have anyone that has played goalie, so we are rotating players into the position. During the game I notice Granite Bay's player giving our goalie tips on how to adjust to the ball movement around the field. I was very impressed with her sportsmanship. Coach Parkin(Girl s U13A) is the nicest, most gracious and positive coach I have coached against (this is my 4th year) and I know some great coaches. His positivity is infectious and it shows in the smiles on his girls even after they lose. Great example for all of us who can take this a bit too seriously at times. He thanked us for coming to Sacramento and was just fun to share the sideline with. Sportsmanship

  9. Actual SIRs Heard Coach X was verbally abusive towards both my partner - me and his players during both of the games his team participated in: questioned every call and showed his disagreement with the decisions at almost every whistle. He also got really angry at us when we reset a play after an accidental whistle.(U-11 Game) Coach said to the official after the game: If you were in upstate NY or Long Island, you would not make it out of the parking lot . After the game ended, an Official, standing by the table after being dressed down by the head coach, said under his breath (F in idiot) in front of the two parent scorers. It was late in the 4th quarter and we were loosing 11-0. Our goalie (who is only 4' 6" at most) tried to take the ball all the way up the field, when the Assistant Coach started to yell and I quote, "Drop Him, Drop Him...come on, Drop Him NOW! Take him out already!" I responded immediately and said "Hey, these are kids, there is no place for this." He responded with "well, that is bad sportsmanship letting the goalie bring it up the field like that," Sportsmanship
