From Abraham to Joseph.
The report of faith. Faith is the mirror which reflects the things of the approaching future, and presents them to the believer s mind as though he were beholding and personally in the presence of the very things themselves. 1] Abel: Heb 11:4: Offered a more excellent sacrifice. 2] Enoch: Heb 11:5: Pleased God. 3] Noah: Heb 11:7: Prepared an Ark to saving of his house. Heb 11:2: By it the elders received a Good Report Heb 11:39: These all having received a Good Report
Jesus the author & finisher of faith: Heb 12:2: "Looking unto Jesus the "author & finisher of faith" He is the "author" = archegos = chief leader. He is the "finisher" = teleiotes = a completer or consummator of faith. ROTH "leader & perfecter" FOUR Times in the book of Revelation. Jesus is the Alpha & Omega. Rev 1:8: "the beginning & ending" Rev 1:11: "the first & the last" Rev 21:6: "the beginning & the end" Rev 22:13: "beginning & the end, the first & the last"
The Good report 8-22 Abraham to Joseph: Abraham the firstborn of the family of faith. Receives a double portion, two acts of faith recorded. Abraham Sara Married Rebekah Isaac Married Rachel. Jacob / Israel Married Leah. Joseph Ephraim Manasseh
The Good report Abraham to Joseph. Family of faith: Abraham, Sara, Isaac & Jacob/Israel & Joseph, founder members of the nation. 1] a] Abraham: Heb 11:8-10: Call of a Gentile to separation. 2] Sara: Heb 11:11: Herself received strength to conceive: 1] b] Abraham: Heb 11:17-19: When he was tried obeyed. 3] Isaac: Heb 11:20: Overruled personal feelings in blessing Isaac. 4] Jacob: Heb 11:21: Resisted external family entreaty to bless Ephraim. 5] Joseph: Heb 11:22: Gave commandment concerning his bones.
Abraham: The role call of Faith. 4] a] Abraham: Call of a Gentile to separation. Heb 11:8-10: By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God. Abraham s Example: Teaches us that we must "Come out from among them & be ye separate" -- we must look to "a city whose builder & maker is God"
Sara: The role call of Faith. 5] Sara: Herself received strength to conceive: Heb 11:11: Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised. The Example of Sara, teaches us, that no matter what our current circumstances, God will perform his promise, he can overcome physical impossibility & weakness to perform his will:
Abrahams 2nd: The role call of faith. 4] b] Abraham: When he was tried obeyed. The offering of Isaac his only begotten son. Heb 11:17-19: By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son. Abraham s 2nd ExampleA man with implicit Trust in & obedience to God -- even in times of the most severe trial -- So in the trials of our life let us remember Abraham.
Isaac: The role call of faith. 6] Isaac: Faith was demonstrated in the way he overruled his personal feelings in order to bless Esau. Heb 11:20: By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come. Isaac s faith accepted God's will above his own desire -- we see when The Lord Jesus Christ, in the garden of Gethsemane said "Not my will but thine be done"
Jacob: The role call of Faith. 7] Jacob s: blessing resisted external family entreaty to bless Ephraim. Heb 11:21: By faith Jacob, when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff. Jacob's Example is of a faith that withstood family pressure -- the lesson is that in spiritual matters we must remain faithful to our God.
Josephs bones carried in an Ark. Heb 11:22: By faith Joseph, when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones. "made mention" is translated as "mindful" in Heb 11:15: = means to exercise the memory. Gen 50:25: "Took an oath of the children of Israel, saying God will surely visit you" Gen 50:26: So Joseph died, being an hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt. The word "coffin" is the same word as Ark.
