  4. Number of players: A small group. Equipment: None With enough room, this game can easily be played inside. One person is the traffic light at one end of the area, and the other players are at the opposite end. When the traffic light faces the group, he or she says, Red light! and everyone must freeze. The traffic light then turns his or her back and says. Green light! While the group tries to get as close to the traffic light as possible. The traffic light turns around quickly, again saying, Red light! and if anyone is spotted moving, they have to go back to their starting place. The first person to reach the traffic light s side of the area wins and gets to be the next traffic light. Red light, Green light or Granny s Footsteps To play the Granny s footsteps version, don t shout Red or Green, just turn around to catch players out. This requires more observation from players

  5. Number of players: 4 or more Equipment: Chalk for markings on the floor or spots Set up a long line of spots or chalked out marks on the floor (2m apart) Divide the group into two, one group stands one end of the line, the other stands at the other end. Rock, Paper, Scissors To start, one player from either end jumps from spot to spot towards the other team, when 2 metres apart they play Rock, Paper, Scissors, the losing player joins the back of their queue and the next person starts jumping, the winning player carries on jumping until they meet the next person to repeat. The team with the most players reaching their opponents side are the winners.

  6. Number of players: 2 or more Equipment: None Play a simple game of Rock, Paper, Scissors with a twist Human Rock, Paper, Scissors Rock: The player will bend down and hug their knees and curl into a ball to look like a rock. Scissors: The player will stand with legs shoulder-width apart and both hands behind their head so they look like scissors. Paper: The player raises their hands and makes their body very flat like a sheet of paper

  7. Number of players: Any number Equipment: Music player/Speaker Choose one person to be control the music. Musical Statues When the music starts, everyone else dances, the crazier the better. When the music stops, the dancers must freeze in their position. Anyone caught moving after that is out. Play continues until there is one person left, this person is the winner

  8. Number of players: 2 or more Equipment: None Choose a player to start the game. The player thinks of a book title, a famous person s name, a saying, a movie title or a song title to act out (without speaking), Charades The starting player should choose something the others will be familiar with. If you like designate a category like sports, pop music or Disney. Whoever guesses correctly earns the chance to act out their title, or you could play in teams!

  9. Number of players: one or more Equipment: Chalk for Hopscotch grid, Rock or beanbag Use chalk to make a hopscotch grid on the playground. Number the squares from one to nine. Pick a rock that is rather flat, small round ones bounce too much. Start by throwing the rock onto square 1. Hop over the rock and hop with a single foot or both feet (to follow the hopscotch pattern) all the way to the end. Turn around and come back, stopping on square 2, balancing on one foot, pick up the rock in square 1 and hop over square 1 to the start. Hop Scotch Continue this pattern with square 2 and so on. If you toss your rock and miss the correct square, your turn is over.

  10. Number of players: ideally at least three. Equipment: None One player counts to 20 at the home base (use a large area to maintain social distancing), others run and hide. Hide and Seek Once the player has counted, they call out coming if you are ready or not , and try and find the players hiding. The hiding players try to get back to home base before the seeking player.

  11. Four Squares Number of players: 2 or more. Equipment: A ball, chalk or cones This ball game is played on a square court further divided into four smaller squares, numbered one to four. One player stands in each of the squares, with the highest ranked player in number one, lowest in number four. Four Squares Players bounce the ball to eachother ensuring it bounces once in the target players square. If the ball isn t caught after one bounce, that player moves down the ranking, or is eliminated with another player rotating in to square four. The winning player is the one at the top of the rankings at the end of a set period of time. If only two players, play like tennis.
