The Arlingham community recently held a consultation to gather feedback on various topics. Initiatives such as Neighbourhood Development Plans, Community Design Statements, and Parish Plans were discussed. These community-driven documents aim to shape local development, influence planning decisions, and address the evolving needs of the community. The focus is on collaboration, local input, and sustainable development practices.

  2. 37 signed in 47 attended Lots and lots of comments were given on all the various headline subjects

CLP Options why we did this Neighbourhood Development Plan A document produced by the community relating to land use and planning, which when it has gone through all the required stages, including referendum, becomes statutory. It will be referred to when any planning applications for that area are received. It shapes new development and can contain such actions as: Opportunity through Localism Act for communities to produce a statutory planning document specific to their area. They have a chance to influence and shape planning and development locally not just respond to planning applications. Provision of walking/cycling routes Traffic management Utilities Town/village centre Affordable housing Sites for facilities shops, play areas, schools New allotments Local green spaces

  4. Community Design Statement As some urban communities are now producing what has always been known as Village Design Statements, they are now often termed Community Design Statements. This document is produced by the community and: To learn more abut their own place and what local people value, want to conserve and enhance To give a community line of guidance against which planning applications can be considered To influence the emerging local plan To give guidance for any development, so that it can be incorporated in pre-application discussion Describes its distinctive character in its surroundings Identifies the landscape setting, shape of settlement and nature of the buildings Draws together design principles based on that distinctive local character/sense of place The focus is on how development might look and not whether or where development should happen. Parish Plan It sets out a vision for your community s future, based on local research carried out by the community itself. It highlights important issues and the projects which need to be tackled. All sorts of issues. Local needs change over time and the population is constantly changing. If you don t know where you are going, how will you know when you get there? It is produced by the community, for the community. Once complete, it will help the community to find funding and work together on projects that will make a difference locally. A parish Plan can: Create a sense of community spirit and & provide evidence of community needs Encourage partnership working Inform the Local Plan Highlight projects which need involvement from Parish Council and other agencies Give evidence to help local organisations apply for project funding Get things done

  5. Green parish Plan It sets out a vision for your community s future, based on local research carried out by the community itself BUT viewed through the lens of climate change. It highlights important issues and the everyday projects which can help mitigate climate change issues. Local needs change over time and the environment is constantly changing. Create a sense of community spirit and & provide evidence of community needs Reduce the environmental impact on the community Mitigate against climate change Highlight projects that need involvement from Parish Council and other agencies Give evidence to help local organisations apply for project funding It is produced by the community, for the community. Once complete, it will help the community to find funding and work together on projects that will make a difference to the environment locally.

Secondary school buses a major headache as we are so remote from schools + costs Example: Transport and Travel A car is essential without it you are stuck. Schools Tsport School children need buses. Management Lights on Perry Way excellent idea. Public Tsport A vehicle is essential at the moment. Improved public transport would be good Improved/safer cycling especially for kids & horseriders Capacity Arlingham Road is very busy Speeding Cars travel far too fast as do the buses. Housing and Planning Of 190 properties, 145 are detached and 25 semi- detached. 23 are second addresses Affordability gap - 133,000 the difference between 4.5 x local annual earnings and 12 10 8 6 4 2 0 Unaffordable for those starting out who come from village Important to have some younger families Encourage good development of old/existing buildings

  13. Transport and Travel 16 35% of households have 3+ cars, 40% have 2 cars, 20% have 1 car and 5% have no cars. 14 12 10 8 6 4 2 0 A car is essential, without it you are stuck Lights on Perry way excellent idea Cycle way to Frampton would be great, especially for children

  15. Climate change resilience 11% of households live in fuel poverty 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 0 Flooding is a major long term issue that village should not ignore Grants for heating would cut oil use Scheme to encourage renewables would be good

Heritage Arlingham is running a campaign to restore the pound and has a Grade I listed 14th C Church Church Funding Pound Development Heritage trail Story Preservation Facilities Beautiful Church. Should be used as a village facility and not just Church All for preserving ancient heritage in village including landscape Pound project 10/10

  17. COMMUNITY SPORT AND LEISURE Pub Shop Coop Activity Levels Hall Playground Children Variety 9% 33% of people in Arlingham have volunteered at least once in the last 12 months. 17% 4% 4% 9% What activities would you like to see in Arlingham? 31% 17% 9% Wonderful village hall, should be used more Pub is central to village life, we take it for granted .. Meetings like this more often so Arlingham parish can change for the better

  18. Health and Wellbeing The majority of people in Arlingham are generally more physically active than the national average.   19. INFRASTRUCTURE AND SERVICES InfrastructureEconomy Speeding Arlingham parishioners have to travel almost 3 times further than the national average to get to work. Safety Public Tsport Maintenance Active Travel School Tsport No public transport Home school transport is very limited. This will continue to impact people moving to Arlingham Should be better cycle route provision would help with other comments

Business and Economy 7 33% of people aged 16-74 in Arlingham are in full-time employment compared to 34% nationally. 6 5 4 3 2 1 0 Shop Diversification All good Fitness Active travel Localism We could do with a community shop Shop with basic items needed It is likely most major development will arise through farm diversification. This plan should look at the effects these may have on the village

If secondary school provision and Transport isn t sorted out families will not live here The village must continue to develop and not be frozen in era

  24. What next? Parish Council consider secondary survey to involve more parishioners. GRCC delve slightly further into info. Parish Council decide whether a formal plan is required. If not formal plan, less formal, more voluntary issue specific targets.
