Explore the world of Modelling Weeks where small teams of students work on real-life problems under experienced instructors. Benefits include networking, teamwork, presenting results, and preparing scientific documents. Organize your own Modelling Week with support from MI-NET, focusing on PhD students and industrial mathematics applications. Learn how to apply, budget, provide industrial problems, instructors, and target participants.

  1. Modelling Weeks in the MI-NET framework Tihomir Ivanov June 16, 2016, ECMI 2016, Santiago de Compostella

  2. What is a Modelling Week? Small multinational teams of students, working on real-life problems. Instructors, experienced in the field of Industrial Mathematics ECMI has been running annual MWs since 1988

  3. The Students Benefits Meet students from all over Europe Find what it feels like to work on real-life projects and get results Work in a team Present your results Prepare scientific documents

  4. Why to Organize a Modelling Week? Not all students could attend the ECMI Modelling Week Spread the reach of industrial mathematics among students Increase awareness for the applications of mathematics to Industry Increase contacts between academia and industry

  5. Modelling Weeks inside the MI-NET framework MI-NET could support the organization of a MW with up to 10000 EUR Focus should be on PhD students, due to the COST regulations 4 calls per year Next call: August 26, 2016 Applications are allowed for events to be held after May 1, 2017

  6. Application Procedure Fill-in the application form Budget Industrial problems and instructors Participants Work plan Programme

  7. Budget Provide a clear and detailed budget Take into account what could be funded according to the COST rules

  8. Industrial Problems and Instructors Provide as detailed description as possible for the problems to be solved during the workshop Problems that could be approached by students in one week Problems having direct industrial relevance Ideally, involve industrial partners

  9. Participants Describe what is the target group of the MW The focus must be on PhD students How many students are expected? How many local students are expected and how many students from abroad? How will you advertise the MW?
