The journey of faith and discipleship in Christ leads us to ponder eternal life and the resurrection, transcending the bounds of human knowledge. By delving into the transformative power of faith, hope, and love, we seek to embody the essence of Christ's teachings and the promise of eternal life beyond comprehension. Discipleship is not merely about acquiring knowledge but internalizing biblical truths in our autobiographical memory, fostering a profound connection with the divine.

  4. "And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one." (John 17:11, ESV Strong's) "A'ole au e noho hou ana ma keia ao, aka, e noho ana no lakou ma keia ao, a ke hele aku au i ou la. E ka Makua Hemolele, e malama 'oe ma kou inoa iho i ka po'e au i ha'awi mai ai ia'u, i lilo ai lakou i ho'okahie like me Kaua." (Ioane 17:11, Ke Kauoha Hou ABS 1971)

  5. In The Image Of The Man Of Heaven 45Thus it is written, The first man Adam became a living being ; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit. 46But it is not the spiritual that is first but the natural, and then the spiritual. 47The first man was from the earth, a man of dust; the second man is from heaven. 48As was the man of dust, so also are those who are of the dust, and as is the man of heaven, so also are those who are of heaven. 49Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven. (1Corinthians 15:45-49, ESV)

  6. Introduction The total knowledge gained by humans is rapidly increasing. While the doubling of knowledge appears to have increased about once every hundred years until the 19th century, today it doubles every 13 months, and with the advent of AI, is predicted to double every 12 hours! But we still do not understand the eternal life which Christ promised, nor what the resurrection will be like, beyond the words of Christ.

  7. Are we being transformed or merely informed by our present practice of faith, hope, and love in Christ? To apply a biblical truth to their life, a person must learn it in their autobiographical memory. Discipleship is incredibly difficult, if not a biological impossibility, when our only method is teaching to the fact memory system through lecture. (Ordinary Discipleship, Jessie Cruickshank, 2023, p.88)

  8. 1. Hints of the resurrection bodies to come. (1 Corinthians 15:35-41) 35But someone will ask, How are the dead raised? With what kind of body do they come? 36You foolish person! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. 37 And what you sow is not the body that is to be, but a bare kernel, perhaps of wheat or of some other grain. 38But God gives it a body as he has chosen, and to each kind of seed its own body. 39For not all flesh is the same, but there is one kind for humans, another for animals, another for birds, and another for fish. 40There are heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the glory of the heavenly is of one kind, and the glory of the earthly is of another. 41There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory. a) Evidence supporting resurrection in the seasons and cycles of biological life. b) Hints of eternal life found in the vast variety of existence and life today.

  9. 24Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. 25So the other disciples told him, We have seen the Lord. But he said to them, Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe. 26Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, Peace be with you. 27Then he said to Thomas, Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe. 28Thomas answered him, My Lord and my God! 29Jesus said to him, Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed. (John 20:24-29, ESV)

  10. 2. The man of dust and the man of heaven. (1Corinthians 15:42-49) 42So is it with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable; what is raised is imperishable. 43It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power. 44It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45Thus it is written, The first man Adam became a living being ; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit. 46But it is not the spiritual that is first but the natural, and then the spiritual. 47The first man was from the earth, a man of dust; the second man is from heaven. 48As was the man of dust, so also are those who are of the dust, and as is the man of heaven, so also are those who are of heaven. 49Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven. a) Since sin entered the world, we have been subject to a cycle of birth, life and death. b) Comparing and contrasting the first man of the earth with the first man of heaven.

  11. 3. Victory over sin and death through the Lord Jesus Christ. (1Corinthians 15:50-53) 50I tell you this, brothers: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. 53For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality. a) Christ s return, the resurrection of the dead, and then eternal judgment. b) Christ s coming victory is the source of our hope. (Revelation 20:11-21:4).

  12. 3. Victory over sin and death through the Lord Jesus Christ. (1Corinthians 15:54-58) 54When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: Death is swallowed up in victory. 55 O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting? 56The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain. a) Christ s return, the resurrection of the dead, and then eternal judgment. b) Christ s coming victory is the source of our hope. (Revelation 20:11-21:4).

  13. Conclusion While science fiction and technological advancement predict that humans might someday indwell robotic bodies, the eyewitnesses of Christ s resurrection say He had a body made of flesh and bones (Luke 24:39). And though Christ ate and drank without leaking, He also walked through walls and locked doors, before soaring up into heaven unaided. What do these words mean: Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven (1Corinthians 15:49, ESV)?

  14. Towards loving and learning community: 1) Practice CAKE, share Christ s love and stories about escaping Enemy Mode this week. 2) Read 1Corinthians 15:35-58 and share one thing the Word and Spirit of God show you. 3) Share communion and pray for one another before our time together is over.

  15. 54When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: Death is swallowed up in victory. 55 O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting? 56The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58 Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain. (1Corinthians 15:54-58, ESV)
