WHAT STAR IS THIS WITH BEAMS SO BRIGHT What star is this, with beams so bright, More lovely than the noonday light? Tis sent to announce a newborn king, Glad tidings of our God to bring.
Tis now fulfilled what God decreed, From Jacob shall a star proceed; And lo! the eastern sages stand To read in heav'n the Lord s command.
O Jesus, while the star of grace Impels us on to seek your face, Let not our slothful hearts refuse The guidance of your light to use.
CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE To God the Father, God the Son, and Holy Spirit, Three in One; May every tongue and nation raise an endless song of thankful praise.
CONFESSION OF SIN O God, your blessed Son was manifested that he might conquer evil and death, and make us children of God, and heirs of eternal life.
Mercifully grant that, having this hope within us, we may be forgiven our sins and purified, even as he is pure. When he appears again with power and great glory,
may we be made like him in his eternal and glorious kingdom, where with you, O Father, and with the Holy Spirit, he lives and reigns, ever one God, world without end.

The star drew nigh to the northwest; O er Bethlehem it took its rest; And there it did both stop and stay, Right over the place where Jesus lay.

Then entered in those wise men three, Fell reverently upon their knee, And offered there in his presence, Their gold, and myrrh, and frankincense.

THE LORDS PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
AS WITH GLADNESS MEN OF OLD As with gladness men of old did the guiding star behold; as with joy they hailed its light,
leading onward, beaming bright; so, most gracious God, may we evermore be led to thee.
As with joyful steps they sped to that lowly manger bed, there to bend the knee before him whom heav'n and earth adore; so may we with willing feet ever seek Thy mercy seat.
As they offered gifts most rare at that manger rude and bare; so may we with holy joy, pure, and free from sin s alloy, all our costliest treasures bring, Christ, to thee, our heav'nly King.
Holy Jesus, every day keep us in the narrow way; and, when earthly things are past, bring our ransomed souls at last where they need no star to guide, where no clouds thy glory hide.
