  5. CSU Admission Information Initial Admission Decision 10th & 11th grades 8th or 9th grade courses count for placement, but not for grades. 12th grade is used to confirm initial provisional admission (did the student pass everything they said they would?) D s and F s Enroll in Apex for grade improvement or credit recovery Honors and AP 11th & 12th grade 10th grade (max 2 courses; 11th or 12th grade content; AP or IB) 8 points max. total

  6. Validation Math A grade of C or better in the first semester of Algebra II validates both semesters of Algebra I. A grade of C or better in Trigonometry or Pre-calculus validates the entire high school college preparatory requirement. UC ONLY: The omission of a geometry course (or a series of integrated math courses containing geometry content) cannot be validated by any higher-level coursework. However, the omission of the 1st semester of Geometry can be validated by successful completion of the 2nd semester. Refer to UC s Validation Matrix. A grade of C or better in a second semester of a higher-level course validates a lower-level course. A higher-level LOTE course can validate the appropriate number of years based on the level. A college course can validate a high school LOTE course. The level of validation depends on the college course prerequisite and description. For courses offered at a California Community College refer to the college s a- g course list on the a-g website and review the Category column. Language Other than English (LOTE) CSU ONLY: A grade of C or better in the second semester of Chemistry will validate the first semester UC ONLY: do not allow the validation of Chemistry. Chemistry

  7. Middle School Grades + Weighted (Honors and AP) P College Prep R Repeated Colleges look at Weighted Academic GPA

  8. How do you calculate your GPA? A: 4 points B: 3 points C: 2 points D: 1 point Honors AP? A: 5 points B: 4 points C: 3 points D: *1 point *Below a C = no weight (extra point)

  9. Quiz! What is your GPA: AP Psych - A AP US History - C Pre-Calc - B Art - C English - B Chemistry - B _________________ 3.16 Weighted

  10. Validation If I got a D in AP Spanish Language during the first semester, but got a B in the second semester, do I have to retake the first semester? No, you do not have to retake the first semester, because the B validates the D grade, but you can if you would like to raise your GPA.

  11. World Language Requirement I went right into Spanish II my first year of high school, do I need to take a second year to meet the world language requirement? No, because a higher level LOTE course can validate the appropriate number of years based on the level. Spanish II = Year 2 Spanish III = Year 3 AP Spanish = Year 4+
