  5. Palaces To Visit In Jaisalmer Jaisalmer Fort (Golden Fort) Gadisagar Lake Bada Bagh Kuldhara Village Tanot Mata Mandir Longewala Post Kabha Fort

  6. Jaisalmer Fort (Golden Fort) Jaisalmer Fort is the second oldest fort in Rajasthan, built in 1156 AD by the Rajput Rawal (ruler) Jaisal from whom it derives its name, and stood at the crossroads of important trade routes (including the ancient Silk road). The fort's massive yellow sandstone walls are a tawny lion colour during the day, fading to honey-gold as the sun sets, thereby camouflaging the fort in the yellow desert. For this reason it is also known as the Sonar Quila or Golden Fort.

  7. Gadisagar Lake Gadisar Lake also called Gadaria Lake is located in the Jaisalmer district of the Indian state of Rajasthan.[1]It was built by the founder of Jaisalmer, King Rawal Jaisal in 1156 AD[2]and later rebuilt by Gadsi Singh around 1367 AD. This lake is an artificial lake.[3]The lake is located about 1.5 km from Jaisalmer Fort. It is said that this lake once provided water to the entire city. Presently, the water comes in the Gadisar Lake from Indira Gandhi Canal, so it never dries.

  8. Bada Bagh A descendant of Maharawal Jaisal Singh, the founder of Jaisalmer State, Jait Singh II (1497 1530), commissioned a dam to create a water tank during his reign in the 16th century CE. This made the desert green in this area. After Jait Singh II's death, his son Lunkaran (1530-1551) built a beautiful garden by the lake and a memorial chhatri cenotaph on a hill overlooking the lake. Later on, many more cenotaphs were constructed here for Lunkaran and other Bhattis. The last chhatri, meant for Maharawal Jawahir Singh, dates from the 20th century and remains unfinished after Indian independence.[4]

  9. Kuldhara Kuldhara is an abandoned village in the Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan, India. Established around the 13th century, it was once a prosperous village inhabited by Paliwal Brahmins. It was abandoned by the early 19th century for unknown reasons, possibly because of dwindling water supply, an earthquake, or as a local legend claims, because of the atrocities by the Jaisalmer State's minister Salim Singh. Over years, Kuldhara acquired reputation as a haunted site, and the Government of Rajasthandecided to develop it as a tourist spot in the 2010s.

  10. Tanot Mata Mandir The temple was constructed and the idol of the reigning deity was installed by the Bhati Rajput King Tanu Rao in 828 AD.[3]Since then, the temple has been revered and worshipped by the Bhati Rajputs and the people of Jaisalmer for generations.[4] The village is close to the border with Pakistan, and is very close to the battle site of Longewalaof the Indo- Pakistani War of 1971. Contemporary folklore credits the temple for the outcome of the battle.[1][2]Tourists cannot go beyond this temple to see the Indo Pak Border unless one gets the relevant documentation in advance from the District and Military Authorities. It is now a tourist destination in India. The area is said to have oil and gas reserves.

  11. Longewala Post The Battle of Longewala (4 7 December 1971) was one of the first major engagements in the western sector during the Indo- Pakistani War of 1971, fought between assaulting Pakistani forces and Indian defenders at the Indian border post of Longewala, in the Thar Desert of Rajasthan state in India. The battle was fought between 120 Indian soldiers accompanied by four Hunter fighter aircraft and 2,000 3,000 Pakistani soldiers accompanied by 30 40 tanks.

  12. Kabha Fort Yet another fascinating and slightly spooky fort in Jaisalmer, Khaba Fort, was once inhabited by the Paliwal Brahmins. It was then suddenly deserted for mysterious reasons. The fort still has the ruins of the homes of some 80 families that used to live here more than 200 years ago.
