The Vietnam Red Cross Society has a structured organizational setup for disaster preparedness and response, including the National Headquarters, Disaster Management Department, and various functional departments at different levels. The organization has achieved significant results in disaster management, such as legal framework completion, strategy formulation, SOP development, and capacity building initiatives. Projects funded by international Red Cross branches have helped enhance disaster resilience and response in Vietnam.

  3. MAIN RESULTS OF PAST-YEAR DISASTER MANAGEMENT Completing the legal framework Formulating Disaster Prevention and Response strategy to 2020 and the plan of action to 2015. Developing Standard Operating Protocol (SOP) for disaster response and National Disaster Response Team (NDRT); Establishing an NDRT Signing a MOU with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to implement the Capacity building and CBDRM program Strengthen capacity from Headquarters to Local levels in the following areas There are 59 trainers of national level, are included 19 in VCA, 20 in WATSAN, 20 in CADRE Falicitators: 138 in CBDRM and VCA; 59 in WATSAN; 43 in CADRE; 12 in EWS; Establishing, equiping and training community-based response teams in 40 communes of 8 disaster-prone provinces (20-25 members/team), Providing in- depth training in logistic for 15 people, and in bidding skills and purchasing goods for 12 people

MAIN RESULTS OF PAST-YEAR DISASTER MANAGEMENT Undertaking disaster preparedness and response projects: Mangrove planting and disaster risk reduction project funded by the Japanese Red Cross Disaster Risk Reduction project funded by the Norwegian Red Cross Disaster Risk Reduction project funded by the American Red Cross Two Disaster Risk Reduction projects funded by the German Red Cross and German Foreign Affairs Department DIPECHO 7 project funded by The Netherlands Red Cross Society Strengthening the capacity for Vietnam Red Cross Society on Disaster Prevention and Response funded by the Spanish Red Cross Watsan project in emergency funded by IFRC and French Red Cross Organizing emergency relief and recovery project for flood-suffering provinces in the Mekong River Delta Climate Change Adaptation in cooperation with German Red Cross and Australian Red Cross Supporting disaster affected countries in 2011 such as Japan, Thailand, Cambodia and the Philippine o o o o o o o o o o

FUTURE ORIENTATION FOR DISASTER MANAGEMENT Strategic Plan to 2015: building 500 safety communes includes following aspects: - - Undertake VCA Improve awareness Implement structural and non-structural measures to improve commune s ability of disaster risk reduction and response. Building capacity from Headquarters to Communes Community-based Disaster Prevention and Response s - - Disaster Prevention and Response: Establishing disaster response teams at different levels, Operation Room in Headquarters and 33 most disaster-prone provinces as following: - - - - Establishing and training disaster response teams Equipping essential tools for members of Disaster Response teams Establishing and equipping Operation Room for disaster Maintaining and upgrading Centers for Disaster Response at local level (including 43 Centers at District level and 26 Centers at Communal level)

FUTURE ORIENTATION FOR DISASTER MANAGEMENT Improving the capacity of WATSAN team in emergency situation - Establishing and training WATSAN teams in 18 disaster-prone provinces Equipping water purification equipment, mobile toilets for emergency situations etc. - Developing logistic activities - Ensuring enough reserved relief goods (qualities, categories,..) for emergency situation to support for disaster-affected areas efficiently. Upgrading Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City-based stores; Building Da Nang-based store in accordance with regulated standards. Completing logistic management and training menu. - -
