Vickie Souve, Monroe County Department of Public Health, Office of
Public Health Preparedness, Rochester, NY
Description: Vickie gave a brief report on the NLM demonstration
project she completed in partnership with the Rochester Public
Library’s Arnett Branch. She then discussed the importance of not
just teaching people about preparedness, but about moving the
community towards a state of readiness and how local libraries and
response organizations might work together to do this.

This project by the National Library of Medicine aims to improve access to disaster medicine and public health information for the disaster health workforce through partnerships with various organizations across the United States. Seven projects are awarded annually, focusing on enhancing disaster preparedness and response capabilities. The initiative includes collaborations with libraries, health departments, professional associations, and research centers. Funding is provided to support innovative outreach efforts in the field of disaster health information management.
