3. Additional Educational Benefits Veteran s Dependent Tuition Waiver Exemption from Nonresident Tuition Military Tuition Assistance

5. VA Needs to Know: The degree the student is pursuing The student s credit hours and anytime there is a change in credit hours If the registration change was a drop or a withdrawal If the student received a U grade When the student is on Academic Suspension

6. Remote Learning and VA Benefits Courses converted from on-campus to remote learning will continue to be certified as resident training for Monthly Housing Allowance purposes

7. If at first you dont succeed The VA will pay for a student to repeat a course that was failed! Students may take an incomplete it will need to be satisfied within 1 year

Parent School Letter Allows students to receive benefits for a course at another school Advisors sign the form verifying that transfer course applies to degree and is a needed course or elective Any student, including DPP students, who want the VA to pay for courses they are taking elsewhere need to complete the Parent School Letter

9. Degree Applicability Courses students take must be required for their current degree (major, minor, option). If the course is an elective, elective credits must still be needed to meet credit minimums (e.g., 180 overall) Advisors:

10. Why Degree Applicability Matters Benefit amounts may be affected Benefits may be exhausted before completion of degree VA may require student to pay back benefits Timeliness of certification can impact timeliness of benefits

11. Certification Process: MyDegrees Review Courses that meet a degree requirement within the categories below will be certified immediately: Baccalaureate Core Major Minor (if the student has declared a minor) Option (if the student has declared an option)

Certification Process: MyDegrees Review Courses that fall within the categories below will need advisor verification: Upper Division Elective Credits Does the student need this course to meet the University Upper-Division Credit Requirement? Lower Division Elective Credits Does the student need this course to be able to meet the Minimum Credits Requirement? Examples of common electives not able to be certified include: Academic Learning Success (ALS), Physical Activity Courses (PAC), and Recitations (unless the recitation is required for the degree)

13. University Exploratory Studies Program (UESP) Only Baccalaureate Core Courses only can be certified

14. Ineligible Courses Courses that do not meet a requirement of the degree program: Will not be paid by the VA Will not count towards the determination of the Monthly Benefit

Options for students enrolled in a course that is unable to be certified: Add an additional major/minor/option that the student is planning on declaring Drop the course that is not required/Add a course that is required Petition the ARC for a late drop Withdraw from the course with a 50% refund Appeal with Business Affairs for a tuition refund Pay for the course out of pocket
