  2. TRAINING- MEANING AND DEFINITION Training is the process of imparting skill or job knowledge to a person. It takes an individual from where he is to where he should be. Training is the act of increasing the knowledge and skills of an employee for doing a particular job. Edwin B.Flippo

  3. To provide job related knowledge to the workers. To impart skills among the workers systematically. So, that they may learn quickly. To improve the productivity of the workers and organization. To reduce the number of accidents by providing safety training to the workers. To make the workers handle material, machines and equipment efficiently and thus to check wastage of time and resource.

  7. Promotion- Meaning Promotion may be defined as an upward movement of an employee s position in the enterprise. An employee who has been promoted moves to a higher level job that gives higher salary, greater authority and accountability as well.

  8. Types of Promotion Horizontal Promotion- when an employee is shifted in the same category. Vertical Promotion- when an employee is promoted from lower category to lower category. Dry Promotion- when promotion is made without increase in salary. Criteria for Promotion a. Seniority- the length of service of the employee in the present organization determines his seniority . b. Merit- the merit of the employee is determined by his performance. Weightage may also be given for his qualifications and academic achievements.

  9. It implies movement of an employee from one job to another without any increase in pay, status or responsibilities. A transfer involves the shifting of an employee from one job to another without special reference to change in responsibilities or compensation. Dale yoder
