  5. Marching band Most visible ensemble in the Summit Band program We will again have a competitive marching band and a football band this fall. Competitive Marching band is an ensemble that performs at football games, parades, and contests throughout the summer and fall semester. Membership in the Competitive marching band is by audition. The football band will consist of all competitive band members and noncompetitive band members and will perform at football games. Membership in the Summit Marching Band requires that students attend all rehearsals and performances and be enrolled in one of the band classes offered at Summit High School. The only exception to this requirement for NON band color guard members. Which we will discuss a little later.

  6. Summer and Fall schedules are attached to the handbook and available on the Team App and our website. 2021 calendar link Marching Band Calendar 2021.pdf When school is in session, rehearsals are Mondays 3:15-5, Tuesdays & Thursdays from 3:15-6 Being in the marching band is a very big commitment. That commitment is both time and financial.

  7. Attendance policy for Marching Band There are 3 types of activities that band members must attend Regular rehearsals throughout the week during school Regular rehearsals throughout the season is very important for all to attend. Practicing with people missing is very non productive and puts the entire group behind. All doctor appointments should be scheduled around rehearsal days. If a student is present at school, then they must be present at rehearsal Students will receive a warning after the 1st unexcused absence. After the second unexcused absence, the student will be made to sit out of a performance. on the 3rd unexcused absence, the student will be removed from the marching band.

  8. Camps Camps are mandatory. Camp days are days in which we pay for additional staff to come and work with the students . We also feed all students on those days. Director approval is required to miss a camp day. An unexcused absence from a camp day will result in removal from the marching band. Performances Performances cannot be missed! Football games and contests are all performances! Unexcused absences from a performance will result in removal from the marching band.

  9. Obviously, illness and injury are excused absences, but will require a doctors' note. Not felling well is different than being sick. If a student is present at school, they are well enough to be at practice or performance. Communication is the key! Please communicate to the directors of any potential conflicts. Director approval is needed for absences that aren't emergency situations to be considered excused.

Great emphasis is placed on individual musical responsibility, in that students are one or two-on-a part. Students in this class are encouraged to perform with the SHS Marching Band, on several concert programs, and in concert festivals. There will be out-of-school time required for rehearsals and performances. This course receives honors credit

Students in Color Guard that also play instruments should be enrolled in the appropriate band class period. Color guard is an intense, physical, outdoor activity. Performing in the guard requires that students be in excellent physical condition. Our experience has been that students with chronic respiratory, cardiac, or other sun or heat-related problems, as well as problems with the knee, ankle, hip, elbow, and shoulder joints will encounter serious obstacles to performing with the proficiency necessary to earn and maintain performance status

  19. Parents Parent concerns! How much does it cost and how much time is involved? Band is a big time commitment! It also costs a lot of money to put a competitive marching band on the field. Budget and Pledges

  20. Band Parent Club! Parents are an important part of the Summit Band, and have a vital role to play. Without the assistance and cooperation of Band parents, there would be no chance for the level of success we want the band to reach! We could not do what we do with out strong parental support! I want to give our band club board members an opportunity to talk to you about how you can be involved as a parent supporter and how to raise money for your child s band experience.

  21. No student will be denied the opportunity to be in the marching band because of money! I do expect every student / parent to make every effort to raise as much as they can! The reality is that it costs money to put a competitive marching band on the field! So we have to work together to reach our goals!
