Enhancing Local Economic Development in Rufunsa Town through Integrated Plans
The Town Council of Rufunsa is working on enhancing local economic development through integrated development plans. This project, in collaboration with the Commonwealth Local Government Forum and funded by the European Union and DFID, aims to improve local governance for effective service delivery in Zambia. By developing Integrated Development Plans and LED strategies, they seek to address constraints, promote economic growth, and create job opportunities while reducing poverty and inequality.

THE PROJECT THE PROJECT The collaboration with Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF) with funding from the European Union and DFID rolled out a project titled Enhancing Local Government Capacity for Development in 10 local Authorities. Local Government Association of Zambia (LGAZ) in The project aims to contribute to enhanced local governance for effective, efficient and inclusive service delivery and development in Zambia.

WHAT IS LOCAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT WHAT IS LOCAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT LED refers to a bottom-up development process where local and external actors public, private and civil society - come together through a common understanding of the challenges facing a locality and a shared vision and set of development objectives for its future. RUFUNSA COUNCIL INTERVENTIONS RUFUNSA COUNCIL INTERVENTIONS LA carried out a survey of women and youth clubs active in the district The LA has engaged women and youth clubs to participate in a goat rearing project to be rolled out in all wards of the district. Aim: To empower local clubs engage in income generating activities in order to reduce income inequalities. Long Term Goal: Have goat rearing practiced at household level within the district Funding: Constituency Development Funds

INTERGRATED DEVELOPMENT PLANS (IDP) INTERGRATED DEVELOPMENT PLANS (IDP) Integrated Development Planning is a method used to plan for future developments Sectoral and local area planning left rural areas underdeveloped and largely unserviced. IDP aims to overcome poor planning of the past An IDP is the principle planning instrument to guide and inform all planning and development in the local authority area and all planning decisions of a planning authority.
INTERGRATED DEVELOPMENT PLANS INTERGRATED DEVELOPMENT PLANS (IDP) (IDP) The Urban and Regional Planning Act # 3 of 2015 section 19(1) requires all local authorities prepare IDP. IDP is required to indicate priority areas one of which is LED among others IDP shift requires government-wide alignment with district priorities its powers and functions
