The subject pools are also dependent on the staffing resources available in the school each year. Hence we may not be able to provide a second class in some subjects every year. Guidance and Counselling Dept. Grennan College

  44. What are the class number restrictions? Home Economics = 20 Biology & Chemistry = 24 Art, DCG, Construction, Engineering = 24 All other subjects = 30 Guidance and Counselling Dept. Grennan College

  45. So what happens if there are not enough spaces in one or more of the subjects? 1. At this stage we will ask all students to reconsider their choices and ask if any student would voluntarily change out of one of the oversubscribed subjects. 2. If there are no voluntary changes we will look at those who had the relevant subject as their 4th choice in order of preference and ask them to consider changing. We will also take into account teachers opinions based on past tests and performance in class. 3. We will also short list those who have not done the subject up to Junior Cert. 4. For those who have done the subject we will consider the grade they received in the Junior Cert (if a TY Student) or their record of grades (if a 3rd Year Student). 5. We will take into account the student s past and current record of attendance, behaviour and participation in school. 6. Failing any voluntary change we will resort to lottery from those who had subject as 4th choice or have been short listed. Guidance and Counselling Dept. Grennan College

  46. The Safe Range Irish (unless you have an exemption) English Mathematics French A Science subject (Chemistry, or Biology,) And two other subjects This is called the Safe Range because with this type of choice i.e., which includes a language and a science subject, it leaves all options open when a student comes to choosing a college course in 6th Year.
