  1. Year 11

  2. In one of our previous celebration assemblies I played Hall of Fame . I still believe that each and every one of you can be whatever you want to be. Here s a reminder of the lyrics from the song:- Be students, be teachers Be politicians, be preachers Be believers, be leaders Be astronauts, be champions Be truth seekers Stay positive. You can make it happen.

  3. Preparing for college Try to continue learning at home. Learning is good for us and achieving goals makes us feel good. Perhaps start to look at your college courses and do some extra research into some of the topics they will cover. Do they have a reading list for the course? Could you start doing this early? GSCE Students 2020 Have a look at the link below which explains how your GCSE grades will be awarded this year. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/ attachment_data/file/878854/Letter_to_students_- _Summer_2020_grading.pdf

  4. College information Most of you have applied to college and have been offered a place. The final decision about your place will take place at enrolment, subject to your GCSE results, usually around September 1st. The college will get in touch to confirm this. If you have not met the course requirements they will discuss alternative courses you could take at enrolment. No student will be refused a college place, but you may not get on the course of your choice if you don't meet the requirements. Some telephone interviews are still due to take place, they will get in touch with you if so. If you change your mind about the course you applied for, contact the college directly through the admissions email address below. Contact details for other colleges can be found on their websites. Ashton Sixth Form: admissions@asfc.ac.uk Tameside or Clarendon College: admissions@tameside.ac.uk If you are interested in doing an apprenticeship you can browse vacancies on the government apprenticeship website. https://www.gov.uk/apply- apprenticeship. Be aware that apprenticeship recruitment may currently be on hold due to COVID-19. If you have any questions, you can contact Mr Eaton.

  5. Tameside School Nursing Team School Health Advice line 0161 366 2317 Moving to college can be a worrying experience under normal circumstances however some of these worries may be heightened as a result of the COVID 19 pandemic. If you are struggling emotionally and need someone to talk to other than your family and friends, you could contact School Health Service Advice Line which opened on Monday 15th June 2020. This can be accessed on a Monday to Friday 9.00 4.00pm. If they are not able to take your call, please leave your name, number and contact details and they will get back to you.

  6. Your Health & Wellbeing Time away from screens Social media is a brilliant way of keeping in touch, but make sure you have time away from a screen it s easy to get overwhelmed with notifications, messaging and some of the unhelpful expectations and pressures we feel as a result of what we see on-line. Feeling Unmotivated? Sometimes we all feel unmotivated - organising our day into a routine can help us feel grounded and structured. Building up a timetable of activities and goals can help keep us motivated - they help us in our day to day routine and give us something to work at through the day. Goals don t have to be too big. Setting goals helps us feel organised and we feel a sense of achievement when we complete a task. You could even try the three list technique one list for if you re having a bad day, one for if you re having a normal day, and one for if you re having a really good day.

  7. Class of 2020 I know how disappointed you all have been about how your school career has ended. I, like you, was really excited and looking forward to celebrating all of your hard work and efforts at your leavers assembly and the Prom. We are continuously receiving updates from the government but at present we are unable to make any plans going forward about celebrating your time at Alder. We will try to celebrate and recognise all of your hard work at some point in the future when it is safe to do so. I am currently working on a virtual Leavers Assembly if you haven t already done so, please email me your school photos.

  8. And finally I have to finish with a quote Always be kind. If you see someone falling behind, walk beside them. If someone is being ignored, find a way to include them. If someone has been knocked down, lift them up. Always remind people of their worth. Just one act of kindness could mean the world to someone.

  9. Just in case you forget what I look like
