The Lancashire picture The Lancashire picture The GOOD News: The GOOD News: In the last 3 years Knife Crime has been less than 1% of all crime, In 2020-21 Lancashire had 76 knife offences per 100,000 population, compared to 89 per 100,000 across England The BAD News: The BAD News: 12% of knife crime victims (1 in 8) were under 18 years old 62% of knife crime resulted in injury to the victim Nearly a third of 11-17 years olds claim to know of someone who has carried a knife 7 out of 10 young people who end up in A&E with a knife injury have been stabbed with their own knife
The Law The Law The law is very strict on knife possession The law is very strict on knife possession: : Carrying a knife could mean being arrested, going to court and ending up with a criminal record that will affect the rest of your life. It is illegal to carry a knife in public without a reasonable explanation. In the eyes of the law, a reasonable explanation does not include: carrying a knife for someone else carrying a knife for protection carrying a knife with no intention of using it Having a criminal record can prevent people from getting a job, going to university or college, or even travelling abroad.
Illegal Blades Some knives are illegal to everyone, however old you are: Flick knives - Where the blade is hidden inside the handle and shoots out when a button is pressed. They are also called switchblades or automatic knives. Butterfly knives - Where the blade is hidden inside a handle that splits in two around it, like wings. The handles swing around the blade to open or close it. Disguised knives - The blade is hidden inside something like a belt buckle or a fake mobile phone.

If you are with the person responsible you too could be found guilty of the killing The advice is simple: Don't carry weapons, know who your friends are and make positive decisions. Remember: Company - think about who you are with Choices - it is up to you to make the right choice Consequences - if you stay involved with something that leads to a serious crime, you could be arrested and charged.

It can take approximately 5 minutes to bleed to death! There is no safe place to stab someone. Get stabbed in the heart means that lethal blood loss can occur in less than 60 seconds A wound in the arm or the leg can still kill, many people have died from stab wounds because a major artery was severed.
