Day 3 - Activities to help you make a decision

Overview of today’s session:
Good morning Year 9. For the past couple of days you have been accessing
resources/videos/careers websites to help you with your Year 9 Options Choices.
You have hopefully had a go at the “Buzz Quiz” and discovered which “animal”
you are, and may have found out about lots of careers you were unaware of.
Today we are going to reflect on the research you have already done, think about
the different subjects you can choose from for your Options Choices, and decide
which subjects are the best for you.
You have 4 activities to complete today to help you to reflect on your ideas. You
may not have time to do all of this this morning but you can use these activities
over the next few days to help you to focus and make your decision.
Activity 1
- Look at the subjects that are being offered
at Fulford School. Write down the subjects that you like
and why you like them.
Remember, you are not allowed to say you like them
because your friends like them or because you like the
teacher!
Activity 2
- Find out about any subjects that you have not studied before
that are being offered and what they involve. Think about if you would
like them and why. New subject?......think about why it might be right for
me.
Activity 3
- Write down any subjects that you
DON’T
like and
why you
DON’T
like them.
You are not allowed to say you don’t like them because you
don’t like the people in the class or because you don’t like
the teacher!
Activity 4
- Find out if the subjects that you are studying
now will be the same in Years 10 and 11. For example, PE in
Years 7 and 8 may be very practical but in Years 10 and 11
may involve a lot more writing.
Speak to/email the relevant subject teachers in school to get
an idea of the course content for the subject you are
interested in at GCSE and discuss whether this will be
suitable for you.
Engage in activities to explore subject choices, discover new subjects, evaluate likes and dislikes, and investigate future course content. Utilize resources from Fulford School to aid in decision-making for your Year 9 Options Choices.
