Sexual health clinician, Christine Zarowski, RN BSN, implemented virtual intracavernosal injection training during the COVID-19 pandemic at the Sexual Rehabilitation Clinic. The program provided web-based training on penile injections, resulting in high patient satisfaction and confidence levels. Virtual sessions included penile anatomy review, injection demonstration, and medication management guidelines. Patient outcomes improved, with the convenience of at-home learning and reduced clinic prep time.

  3. SEXUAL REHABILITATION CLINIC PCSC Team pre-COVID 2019 Prostate Cancer Supportive Care(PCSC) Program, Vancouver Prostate Centre, Vancouver, British Columbia Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the SRC was put on hold from March to April 2020 ICI training resumed in July 2020 via virtual health

VIRTUAL ICI TRAINING Web-based, secure teleconference software Mandatory pre-training reading and video Virtual training session included: -Review of penile anatomy -Mechanism of action of medication(s) -Side effects and management guidelines -Preparation of syringe -Demonstration of injection -Principles of medication titration -Scheduling follow-up

LESSONS LEARNED AND OUTCOMES Proper visual props important Appropriate camera positioning Training sessions lasted 35 to 45 minutes compared to 60 minutes in- person Patients reported the sessions were clear and easy to follow Patients appreciated being able to learn from the comforts of their home without the stress of travel and having to incur the costs associated with parking Elimination of clinic preparation before each visit and post-visit room and equipment cleaning

CONCLUSIONS COVID-19 was an impetus to change our practice Patients were able to gain confidence and competency with virtual ICI training Benefits of virtual training included: -Shorter clinic times -Removal of geographic and financial barriers -Ability to provide timely training for ICI injections Virtual ICI training will remain an option when COVID -19 restrictions are lifted In the future, recording of virtual visits will be an option
