  1. Knowledge Check!

  2. Q1 You receive a small order of Pfizer 12+ bivalent MDV at refrigerated temperature on 6/7/2023. When you unpack the box, your vials are in a bag with a Beyond Use Date (BUD) of 8/10/2023. However, when you check the lot number in the Pfizer expiry checker, you see an expiration of 2/29/2024. When is the last day you can use these vials? Option 1: As long as they stay in the refrigerator, they are good until 2/29/24 Option 2. 10 weeks from the day they are received, 8/16/2023 Option 3. The BUD date on the bag, 8/10/2023

  3. Answer Option 3! The BUD date on the bag, 8/10/2023 The BUD date kicks in when doses are moved from FROZEN (ULT) to REFRIGERATED. The warehouse marks the BUD date as 10 weeks from when they moved the doses! It is NOT the expiration date it is always the shorter of the two dates between expiration and BUD

  4. Q2 To prepare for a clinic, you pull out vaccines to make sure you have enough on hand. You get called in to the other room and forget to put the vials back in the refrigerator. You come back the next morning and see the vials are still out, oh no! You know the next steps. You reach out to the manufacturer, and they say the vials are no longer viable. Before you dispose of the vaccine, you go to report it in myCAvax. What would you label these doses? Option 1. The doses are expired Option 2. The doses are spoiled Option 3. The doses are deactivated

  5. Answer Option 2! The doses are spoiled Spoiled vaccine: exposed to out-of-range temps! Could be due to: power outage, improper transport, storage unit temps not monitored... Expired vaccine: when doses are past the earlier of the expiration or beyond use date
