Unique and Unusual Hotels Around the World

arriving from Vancouver after 2.5 hours of seaplane
flight. And it is only the beginning of a unique
enjoyment. Source: Protagon.gr

Winvian, USA. When it was created in 1940, Winvian was a
family owned farm business owned by Winthrop and Vivian
Smith. But one weekend in 2001, Maggie's daughter and
granddaughter Heather Smith decided to turn the farm into an
18-unit hotel complex. The most notable of these is the
"Helicopter": an authentic Sikorsky from the US Coast Guard.

Marqués de Riscal, Spain. With its wavy
ceilings of titanium, gold and silver, the
Marqués de Riscal Hotel is not unique in its
kind. It is also the only one designed by
Frank Geri, the architect of the Guggenheim
Museum in Bilbao. The hotel has 43 rooms,
the décor of which is as impressive as its
appearance. Source: Protagon.gr

Hotel Hackspett, Sweden. The Hackspett Hotel is an idea by Michael
Gunnberg, the artist who also inspired the underwater Utter Inn hotel in
the middle of Lake Malaren. One can climb the house with a ladder so it
is best not to have very heavy suitcases. When it goes up, however, it will
find packed lunch and breakfast. And then he only has to pull the ladder
to live like a bird. Source: Protagon.gr

Das Park Hotel, Austria. The Das Park
tubing rooms needed little to
become habitable. The owner,
however, made sure to open a
skylight for natural light, while the
interior houses paintings by Austrian
artist Thomas Lodge Ochoa. Note
that each room weighs 9.5 tonnes

Hostel Celica, Slovenia. Twenty rooms - cells
of a former prison, each decorated by a
different artist. Most of them, however, kept
the bars in the windows so as not to lose the
sense of imprisonment for anyone who
wants to experience life. Source: Protagon.gr

apsula Hotel, Japan. The chain has
hotels in almost all major cities. And
for the Japanese it's not that weird.
They use these hotels to sleep after a
night of heavy drinking. Inside, these
tiny capsule rooms have a TV and a
curtain that lets you isolate yourself
from the rest of the world. Source:

Atelier sul mareItaly.
Atelier sul mare is fully
dedicated to
contemporary art, and
each room is designed by
a different artist. The
Prophet's room, for
example, is dedicated to
Pier Paolo Pasolini. In the
Towers Room the roof
opens to a crank allowing
the visitor to sleep under
the sky. Another has a
huge triangular bed.

The Boot. Bed'n'Breakfast, New Zealand. Creating this
accommodation required the ingenuity of an
eccentric artist such as Steve Rockards. Despite the
curved walls and curved windows, the
accommodation is comfortable. Guests have a double
bed, a kitchenette, a minibar and a bathroom with
shower. Source: Protagon.gr

Hotel Kaklsauttanen Finland. Igloo
glass is not the only Kakslauttanen
specialty: it also has ice igloo and
wooden huts. The good thing about
glass, though, is that it never melts,
allowing the visitor to observe the
magnificent northern lights in his
bed - a natural phenomenon that
usually occurs from late August to
April. The igloos are made of a glass
that does not allow the cold to pass
inside. Not that it doesn't get cold
inside. Only the inside temperature
is - 3 degrees Celsius and not - 30
degrees outside. Source: Protagon.gr
