You can write your answers on any piece of paper at home, or discuss them with someone but your answers must be in full sentences. My answers are on the next slide. 1. Why do you think Mr Carter wanted no children present during the interview? 2. Find and copy one word from page 3 which has a similar meaning to nervous. 3. Why did Mr Carter lock the tomb up? 4. Why do you think Lil s parents wore their best coats and hats to the train station? 5. Why might grandad have needed to sit down? 6. Predict the connection between Grandad and Alex.
Here are the answers I would give the questions set. I have written my answer in blue and my explanation of how I know think this is in green. 1. Why do you think Mr Carter wanted no children present during the interview? I think that Mr Carter wanted no children present during the interview because of how disruptive they had been during the tomb opening. He did not like that they outed his secrets. Remembering from the previous chapter. 2. Find and copy one word from page 3 which has a similar meaning to nervous. Apprehensive has a similar meaning to nervous. It s an adjective to describe a feeling of anxiety or that something bad will happen. 3. Why did Mr Carter lock the tomb up? Mr Carter locked the tomb because people finding out about his stealing and lying meant calls for Egyptians to take more of a lead on the dig and he didn t want them getting the artefacts instead of him. My understanding of pages 2-3. 4. Why do you think Lil s parents wore their best coats and hats to the train station? I think Lil s parents wore their best clothes because they would be meeting the Mendoza family and wanted to impress them. They know that they have more money and fancier things than them. Also, it s an exciting day! Understanding of the story, there is no evidence for this clearly in the chapter. 5. Why might grandad have needed to sit down? Lil thought that grandad might need to sit down because he looked pale and had been poorly, but it seems the reason he was pale was seeing Alex. Page 7. 6. Predict the connection between Grandad and Alex. This is completely your prediction I already know! There is not right or wrong answer here, but you might mention their mutual love of Egypt? Perhaps they had known each other at the British Museum? That isn t it though . Get ready for tomorrow!
