  1. Solar Energy By Ailish Fee and Laura Fanning

  2. What is solar energy? Solar Energy is light, heat and other forms of energy given off by the sun. Solar Energy can be converted directly or indirectly into other forms of energy such as heat and electricity.

  3. Solar Heating Most solar heating systems capture solar energy with a device called a flat-plate collector. The collector is a large plate of black metal covered with a sheet of glass. It is usually placed on the roof of a building. The plate absorbs sunlight and uses it to heat air or water that flows through pipes behind it. The air or water then goes through the building s heating or plumbing system.

  4. Making Electricity - Solar Furnaces Devices called solar furnaces use the Sun s heat to make electricity. It has mirrors that focus large amounts of solar energy into a small area producing extremely high temperatures (2,000 degrees celsius) This heat can be used to make steam .The steam can be used to make electricity in a power plant.

  5. Making Electricity - Solar Cells Solar cells use the Sun s light to make electricity. When the Sun shines on a solar cell, the cell turns the light energy into electricity. A single solar cell makes only a little electricity. However, groups of solar cells can provide electricity for whole buildings. Solar cells are also used in products such as calculators and watches.

  6. Benefits and Costs Solar energy has two big benefits over fossil fuels(coal, oil and natural gas) First, though fossil fuels can be used up, there is an endless supply of. Second, solar energy does not cause pollution, like burning fossil fuels does. However, the equipment needed for collecting and using solar energy is expensive. The high costs of solar energy has limited its use.

  7. Interesting Facts !! 1.A lot of famous buildings use solar energy such as: The Eiffel Tower, The White House D.C , and much more. 2.Solar Panel costs have fallen 99% since 1977. 3.China is the world leader in Solar Energy by a lot. 4.Solar is the fastest energy source to develop. 5.Solar energy is cheaper than fossil fuels. 6.Solar power plants can last up to 40 or more years. 7.California is the U.S star in solar.
