  4. The course The course Partnership between NAVSH and Bath Spa University Course content is organised by NAVSH Tutorial support & assessment by BSU. Includes access to the BSU Virtual Learning Environment (Minerva), the Library and the Writing and Learning Centre 30 credit module within the BSU MA in Professional Practice. You can continue to the full MA, or you may be able to use your credits at another university

  5. Who is this course for? Who is this course for? People working with care experienced children including foster carers, adoptive parents and carers, teachers, social workers, virtual school heads and team members. The course will give you a critical appreciation of the research findings on the education of care experienced children, and attachment, trauma and learning. We want to: Validate and understand the contribution by those who work with care- experienced children Share ideas and perspectives Encourage more engagement with and critical analysis of research-based approaches to supporting care-experienced children

Course content Course content Preparatory work (November-December 2022) Some reading and note taking to get you ready for the course Working at postgraduate level (January 2023) Webinars to welcome you to the course and explain how to use the online resources and the support available for you as you work at postgraduate level. The education of care experienced children (February-April 2023) A study of the current literature and research via online tuition sessions, drop in sessions and webinars, followed by an assignment Attachment, trauma and learning (April-June 2023) A study of the current literature and research via online tuition sessions, drop in sessions and webinars, followed by an assignment

Dr Kate Brooks Dr Kate Brooks course tutor course tutor Associate Lecturer in Education History at Bath Spa University; Fellow of the Higher Education Academy Research interests and publications include student learning and identity in Higher Education, school attendance, widening participation, and the history of institutionalised care. Currently researching the history of children's homes in nineteenth century Bristol. Working with local schools on a post-Covid research project Since 2013, Kate has worked as a foster carer, and currently volunteers as an independent visitor for young people experiencing care. She is also a trustee of the Attachment Research Community.

  16. Assessment Assessment 1. Literature review of current research on the education of care experienced children (4000 words). 2. Literature review of current research on attachment, trauma and learning. (4000 words). You need to pass both assignments to obtain 30 credits. You can submit drafts before submission for comments and advice.

  17. Qualifications Qualifications You can follow this as a stand-alone module. Your academic transcript will indicate you completed a module called EDU7113-30 Independent Study. If you wish to study further you can use the 30 credits from this module to proceed to the following qualifications: o Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Practice 60 credits o Master s Degree in Professional Practice 180 credits You may also be able to count previous experience and learning towards your credit total. It may be possible to transfer academic credits to courses at other universities.

Fees Fees The fee is 1700 fee and covers: oTuition and webinar fees oTutorial support, assessment and online resources from Bath Spa University oAdministration costs Please note that we need to recruit at least 22 students for the course to be viable. We will notify you in November 2022 if we have recruited sufficient numbers.

  19. The NAVSH award for postgraduate study The NAVSH award for postgraduate study Once completed, students can apply to NAVSH for a 200 award if they: Submit the two assignments to Bath Spa University and which receive pass marks. Share their learning with others, for example through a written summary of their work, a webinar or a short workshop at a local training session or the annual NAVSH conference.
