  2. New style SATs (from 2016) In the summer term of 2016, children in Year 2 and Year 6 were the first to take the new SATs papers. The new-style SATs for English and maths reflect the most recent national curriculum, and are more rigorous than in the years prior to 2016. There is also a completely new SATs marking scheme and grading system which has replaced the old national curriculum levels.

  8. How will Key Stage 2 SATs be marked? After each test, the papers are sealed in an envelope ready to be collected for external marking. In your child s end-of-year report, you will be given their raw score (the actual number of marks they get), alongside their scaled score and whether they have reached the expected standard set by the Department for Education ( NS means that the expected standard was not achieved and AS means the expected standard was achieved). The range of scaled scores available for each KS2 test is: 80 (the lowest scaled score that can be awarded) 120 (the highest scaled score) The expected standard for each test is a scaled score of 100-120. Greater depth is considered to be a score of 110-120.

  9. How you can support you child The best thing you can do is to encourage your child to complete their homework on time and to the very best of their ability. Talk to them about their learning in class and praise them for their achievements. If you would like your child to complete extra studies at home in preparation for their SATs, CGP have a wide range of books to support this. www.cgpbooks.co.uk

  10. Are there any practice papers for the KS2 SATs? The short answer is yes. However In school we use the 2016 - 2019 past SATs papers alongside the CGP test papers which are written in the same style. Please don t use these at home! Because we use these to track the children s progress in school, if they have already completed them at home it could affect their results and the targets set for them. We will support your children to achieve their potential. You can help by ensuring their homework is completed and returned, in addition to regularly monitoring their reading by hearing them read and discussing their books with them. Book change day is Monday

  11. Key Stage 2 Science Science is teacher assessed. There is no externally set test. Key Stage 2 Writing The children do not sit a writing test. Children s writing is based on teacher assessment across a range of writing in different styles. This is often open to the judgement of external moderators who will visit the school to verify the results by reading the children s writing and engaging in discussions with the class teacher.
