Authors short biographies Silvena Dencheva Yordanova, Varna University of management- Bulgaria, is an associate professor in Social management and has more than 10-years of experience as a lecturer in Management, Strategic management, and Organizational behavior. She has three diplomas, she is bachelor of Marketing and management, Master of Business administration. She has also a teaching qualification with pedagogical certificate. She has also a Ph.D. degree in Social management. Silvena Yordanova is a Regional coordinator of the Bulgarian Academy of sciences. She has an extensive experience as event manager, marketing manager and editor of a magazine. Currently she is a member of the Bulgarian Academy of marketing. She has developed many projects and is leading courses in Digital marketing, Leadership, Strategic management. Currently she is the Chairman and coordinator of the organizing committee of International conference at VUM and is an Editor of the Annual book of VUM. Introduction The world is different now. It has experienced the biggest crisis in the humanity. It affected all businesses but the hospitality sector suffered the most. The paper aims to study how chefs in Colombian accept job satisfaction and what factors affect on their level of job satisfaction and how they view their career development opportunities. The researchers have set the next research objectives: 1. To understand and evaluate critically the perceptions of Colombian chefs and the level of their job satisfaction. 2. To define those factors linked to the level of job satisfaction Colombian chefs feel. In this regard, the following hypotheses have been formulated: Hypothesis 1: Colombian chefs will be more likely to accept higher salaries and bonuses as ways to get more job satisfaction. Hypothesis 2: Colombian chefs will take opportunities to grow and to be promoted and to be supervised as a way to develop their level of job satisfaction. Online survey has been conducted and it was distributed through social media mainly to chefs in Colombia and employees that work in the restaurant industry. ICMS-2022 3
Introduction Methodology The aim of this paper is to examine how Colombian chefs view their level of job satisfaction and what is affecting on it. In this regard, the following questions have been asked: 1. What is the perception of Colombian chefs about their level of job satisfaction? 2. What are those factors affecting on their job satisfaction? Hypotheses Hypothesis 1: Colombian chefs understand that bigger salaries and bonuses are a way for higher job satisfaction. The Literature Review The majority of academic studied connote about major types of factors, affecting on job satisfaction elements of the job design: Positive attitude towards the job the person does Sociable aspects of the job to satisfy social needs Planning and organization in the company Self-esteem the employee has the ability to self-control that employee possesses Ability to do the job well no matter of the situation Acquisition of skills to achieve higher competency Task performance Task significance the extent of autonomy and freedom that the job provides to the employee Feedback that employee receive about performance Leadershipstyle and its effect on employees Coworker relationship Job security of the position Promotion Compensation opportunities ICMS-2022 6
The Study Methodology The paper aims to understand the Colombian chefs perceptions on job satisfaction and what factors contribute to the job satisfaction they have. The next research questions have been defined: 1. What is the perception of Colombian chefs about their level of job satisfaction? 2. What are those factors affecting on their job satisfaction? Hypotheses Hypothesis 1: Colombian chefs understand that bigger salaries and bonuses are a way for higher job satisfaction. Hypothesis 2: supervision, promotion and career development are perceived as as a way to receive job satisfaction by Colombian chefs. ICMS-2022 7
Methodology As described above, there are nine factors affecting on the level of job satisfaction. In this regard an adapted version of the Job Satisfaction Survey has been applied by the researchers ( Pedraza, 2020). This tool has been proved as effective in defining the level of job satisfaction in different sectors of the economy which proves its reliability. Validity will be addressed by answering relevant questions to measure level of job satisfaction and with the expected number of filled questionnaires- 50 completed online questionnaires. ICMS-2022 8
Results There is a correlation between the number of working hours and the salary received by chefs. It explains the differences in the salaries received by chefs part of the study. It became clear that 5 of them receive less than 150 Euros ($550.000 ), 15% of respondents receive a salary from 151 to 230 Euros ($550.000 to $828.000) whereas 25 % of them% receive salary from 231 to 300 Euros ($828.100 to $1.100.000) which responds to the legal requirements for the minimum wage in Colombia. It becomes obvious that 15% of them receive a payment in a form of a salary in the range of 301 to 400 Euros and 40% of respondents receive a salary more than 401 Euros (Pedraza, 2020). The researchers used the theoretical method of Spector (1985) and an adapted online JSS survey. Besides these hypotheses have been formulated and tested by using correlation analysis with Pearson coefficient (Pedraza, 2020). ICMS-2022 9
Results The strong correlations are those with a low p-value and -1.0 to 1.0 r-value, the correlation to analysis will be all positive (Pedraza, 2020): As it becomes clear after Pearsons correlational analysis, a strong correlation was between the support provided by family and the (r = 0.729, p < .001) as respondents in survey who are married are more likely to take care of other family members such as children or elder people. It was interesting to understand that there is a strong correlation between between Payment satisfaction and Job satisfaction (r = 0.848, p < .001). ICMS-2022 10
Discussion It also has been confirmed that there is a moderate relationship between Payment satisfaction and Daily workload as (r = 0.475, p < 0.034). In other words, the more days chefs work, the bigger salary they receive and they feel higher payment satisfaction (Pedraza, 2020). The relationship between salary and working hours per week have been tested and it became clear that there is a moderate positive relationship (r = 0.544, p < 0.013). ICMS-2022 11
Implications Job satisfaction is the goal that most employers should focus by taking into account the following steps: 1. Procedure to deal with complaints (businessmanagament ideas.com) 2. Career growth opportunities should be clearly defined by management. 3. Measuring the abilities and performance of each employee 4. Reward creative workers. 5. Promotion opportunities as salary increases 6. Promotion stemming from the proved skills and abilities demonstrated in the job: As it became clear from the survey, promotion opportunities are determining the level of job satisfaction of chefs.
