Facts are statements that can be proven true, while opinions are subjective and cannot be proven. When trying to persuade someone, it's essential to distinguish between the two and use a language of power to argue your point effectively.

  1. Facts vs Opinions When we are trying to persuade someone, we want to convince them that our opinion is correct. We back up our opinions, and strengthen our arguments, using facts. What is the difference?

  2. Facts Facts are statements that can be proven to be true: - The fastest land-dwelling creature is the cheetah - Oranges contain both calcium and Vitamin C

  3. Opinions Opinions are statements that cannot be proven. They can be argued. - The ugliest sea creature is the manatee. - Popular music today isn t as good as it was in the past.

  4. Language of Power We use language of power to argue our opinion (point of view). Which of these make sense and which don t? Why?

  5. I strongly believe that the 13- Storey Treehouse is an interesting novel.

  6. In my opinion, The 13-Storey Treehouse was written by Andy Griffiths.

  7. Theres no doubt in my mind that the 13-Storey Treehouse would make an excellent movie.

  8. I passionately believe that Andy and Terry live in a 13- Storey Treehouse.
