Germany and the rise of Hitler: 1920s Weimar Republic- Germany is ruled by a weak Democratic government Economic Depression- Germany s inflation rate was so high that people couldn t afford food 1920: Hitler joins and becomes a leader in a small political group, called the NAZI party, which was focused on the idea that Germany had to overturn the Treaty of Versailles 1923: Hitler starts a small revolt in Munich, Germany, but it fails, and Hitler is imprisoned 1924: Hitler writes Mein Kamp (My Struggle) which declares the basic ideas of the NAZIs: a. Create a pure, Aryan race and get rid of all Jews, Slavs, Gypsies, Homosexuals, Handicapped, etc. b. Overturn the Treaty of Versailles c. Create lebensraum (living room) for the German people
