The Impact of Social Media on Information Consumption and Youth Culture

Social Media and me

How have social media change the way I
consume and understand information
Since social media is  a thing I don’t really need to look at the
newspaper anymore I can look for news online. But when you look
at news online you have to make sure that 1' it's not clickbait and
2' it's not fake/just gossip about something.
so in a way newspaper is more reliable because its most likely
fact checked and published by certified person and can't just be
some random person online because they might be biased on
something
When you see or read news on social media .
Do you take time to research the story further
It depends and how interesting the topic of the news is and if it
interests  me most of the time it does not but if it does interest me I will
do  further research on it for example when Shohie Ohtani got a
contract with the Dodgers with 700,000,000$ I did further research
and turned out he did sign a 700 million dollar contract with the
Dodgers for  ten years.
But most of the time I don’t really care to much about the news
especially since the news is usually sad and you don't get anything
good out of it either then  the knowledge of whats going on in the world
which can be good at times.
What value do you get from online social
interactions
For some people the value of online social interactions is
acceptance and to be accepted by your peers
But for me the only value I get from social media is learning a new
skill for example how to change a car wheel or how to do a gym
excises better ect, also some Instagram posts can be very
motivating but in my opinion Instagram is mostly pointless and
you usually do not get anything good out of it.
Some positive values you get from online social interactions is
that you can connect with your friend's and chat with them, it's
also good to stay connected with people.
How is social media and social capital helping
to form youth culture
Social media and social capital is shaping youth culture because
youth people can now just go on social media post about
something they want to know about and the random people
across the internet communicate on that post and work together
to answer that question
A great example of this would be Reddit
If  I post online do I consider how the post may
be seen
If I post online I consider the following things: will I regret what I post
in the future, will it affect me in the future e.g getting job, applying
for collage ect.
But I usually don't post online the only time I post something online
is my baseball tournaments or to be seen by coaches
Do i see any similarities between the world
presented in this video and the world you live in
Some similarities I saw in the video that relate with the world we
live in were, nowadays people are all about acceptance and how
many likes they get on social media, and if they don’t get a lot of
likes they might worry that they won't get accepted by their peers.
Another similarities I saw was that she spat the food out of her
mouth in the video and didn't seem to like the coffee but still posted
a photo of the food making the food look good this related with the
world we live in because everything and anything you see online
may be fake or not as good as it seem/ presented.
How does the main character gain and lose points
Why are these points important to her
The main character gains or loses points based on how people
interact with her social media post and if they like it or not
If she does not get a lot of likes she feels like she does not have
value to the world, compared to when she does get likes she feels
like she is valuable as a person to the world.
although people are liking what you post technically they are not
liking you as a person though.
What value
might be derived from
this type of social
interaction
That your worth as a human is based
on what type of social rating you got
In the video the girl with the higher
social media rating tried that guy's
smoothie who had a lower rating
hoping that she would rate him 5
stars which she does but buy doing
that she loses a some of her social
media rating.
And that based on your social media
rating is how
valuable you are as a human.
How are social
interactions changed
in the world of these
clips
Social interactions are
changed due to these clips
because its all about social
rating and based on your social
media rating/ How many likes
you get, which values you as a
person and maybe be
considered lower class based
on liked and online rating.
How do I tell the difference
between facts and interpretations,
opinions and judgements
To tell if it is a fact or something else i will have to do further
research on that fact hence the term fact check it.
To tell  if the thing I am reading is an interpretation I try to
infer if it's an explanation and if it's based on a perspective.
To find out  if it is an opinion I will see who is writing the
website and what it called for an example if the article or
website I'm a looking at is called: why Michael Jorden is the
best basketball player of all time, it would be an opinion
And last to tell if it a judgement usually the article or thing I
am reading will be judgmental E.G ''The only reason
Shaquille O'Neal made it to the NBA is because of his
height, he has no skill!!! That would be a judgement.
How do you analyze
evidence from different
perspectives
When I analyze evidence I keep in mind when the
evidence/information was published is it
outdated? I also keep in mind that the  person
may be biased on what there stating and if the
statement is established company or just some
random author.

  1. Social Media and me

  2. How have social media change the way I consume and understand information Since social media is a thing I don t really need to look at the newspaper anymore I can look for news online. 3. When you see or read news on social media . Do you take time to research the story further It depends and how interesting the topic of the news is and if it interests me most of the time it does not but if it does interest me I will do further research on it for example when Shohie Ohtani got a contract with the Dodgers with 700,000,000$ I did further research and turned out he did sign a 700 million dollar contract with the Dodgers for ten years. But most of the time I don treally care to much about the news especially since the news is usually sad and you don't get anything good out of it either then the knowledge of whats going on in the world which can be good at times.

  6. If I post online do I considerhow the post may be seen If I post online I consider the following things: will I regret what I post in the future, will it affect me in the future e.g getting job, applying for collage ect. But I usually don't post online the only time I post something online is my baseball tournaments or to be seen by coaches

  7. Do i see any similarities between the world presented in this video and the world you live in Some similarities I saw in the video that relate with the world we live in were, nowadays people are all about acceptance and how many likes they get on social media, and if they don t get a lot of likes they might worry that they won't get accepted by their peers. 9. What value might be derived from this type of social interaction That your worth as a human is based on what type of social rating you got In the video the girl with the higher social media rating tried that guy's smoothie who had a lower rating hoping that she would rate him 5 stars which she does but buy doing that she loses a some of her social media rating. And that based on your social media rating is how valuable you are as a human.

  10. How are social interactions changed in the world of these clips Social interactions are changed due to these clips because its all about social rating and based on your social media rating/ How many likes you get, which values you as a person and maybe be considered lower class based on liked and online rating.

  11. How do I tell the difference between facts and interpretations, opinions and judgements To tell if it is a fact or something else i will have to do further research on that fact hence the term fact check it. That would be a judgement.

  12. How do you analyze evidence from different perspectives When I analyze evidence I keep in mind when the evidence/information was published is it outdated? I also keep in mind that the person may be biased on what there stating and if the statement is established company or just some randomauthor.
