Hadith

‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her,
reported: When Allah’s Messenger [SAWS]
occupied himself in the prayer at night, he
observed it with such a extended
qiyam
(posture of standing) until his feet were swollen.
‘A’ishah asked: “Allah’s Messenger, you do this in
spite of the fact that your earlier and latter sins
have been forgiven for you?”

Hadith

What was the Prophet’s (SAW) response to
why he stood all night in prayer?

“A’ishah, should I not prove myself to be a
thankful servant of Allah?”

Shukr

Despite knowing that all of His sins would
be forgiven and He would be entered into
Paradise, the Prophet (SAW) still stood
up in prayer all night.
Why? To be thankful (Shukr) to Allah
(SWT)

Surah Al-A’raf (7), Ayat 16-17

Shaitan declared: "Since You let me
deviate, now I will lie in ambush for
mankind on Your Right Way.
I will come upon them from the front,
from the rear, from the right, and from the
left, and You will find most of them to be
ungrateful."

Surah Luqman (31), Ayat 12

Allah (SWT) said, “And whoever gives his
thanks, he does so for the benefit of his
own-self. And who so ever conceals his
thanks, then he ought to know that Allah
is self-sufficient, worthy of all praise.”

Hadith

“Wondrous is the affair of the believer for
there is good in every matter of his; for if
is he is happy, he thanks Allah (SWT), thus
there is good for him. And if he is
harmed, he shows patience, thus there is
good for him.”

A Muslim should always be in a state of
gratefulness
We thank Allah when something good
happens
We are patient when something “bad”
happens
We should never be complaining about
anything
