Dr. Dana Kissner
(Wayne State University
Physicians Group) has been an absolute
powerhouse of information and dedication
to TB diagnosis and care, even in retirement.
Thank you! You are a gift to all whose lives
you touch!

Brian Petroelje
(Kent County Health
Department/Spectrum Health) for providing
expertise and going above and beyond for
patients.

Harold Applehof
(X-Ray Technician at Kent
County Health Department) celebrated 60
years of work in the field of Tuberculosis this
past year. Harold is an extraordinary
individual who we are lucky to have on our
team!

Dr. Robert Dickson
(TB Consultant) thank you
for your untiring support and guidance through
the series of difficult cases we have
encountered!

Submitted by the TB Program Nursing Team at Washtenaw
County Health Department

Ericka Mueller
, you rock! Thank you for all
the work you do for your TB clients and all
of the effort you put in to educate your
fellow nurses. Your knowledge and kindness
has not gone unnoticed!

Janice Taylor
(Oakland County Health Division
TB Nurse Case Manager) is a very dedicated
nurse case manager who always goes above
and beyond for her clients. She goes out of her
way to not only make sure they are receiving
excellent care for their TB, but also takes the
time to get to know them on a personal level.
She is an excellent nurse and coworker.

Maggie Kabore, RN
 is now the TB Program
Coordinator for Washtenaw County. She has
some big shoes to fill, since she’s taking over
where Mary McCloud (now retired) left off– and
Maggie is doing a phenomenal job! She’s a great
teacher and is adept at culturally competent,
compassionate care. Way to go, Maggie!

Karen Gorman
(Wayne County Health Dept)
ensures patients are treated properly, often
having to make alternate arrangements to
meet their needs. She has a heart of gold
and goes above and beyond the call of duty
to complete her work.

Carolann Banks
works at the front desk at the Wayne
County TB Clinic. She is confronted daily with anxious
patients, language issues, cultural issues, and billing
issues. Carolann has presented a compassionate,
effective face to Public Health in Wayne County. Not only
does she work with patients in person and on the phone,
but she assists with outreach contact investigations,
including phlebotomies for adults and children. She is an
essential component of our TB program.

Stephanie Doyle
(Bay County Health Department)
has worked diligently investigating LTBI cases in
Bay County. She has done an excellent job
educating clients and healthcare providers on
LTBI and assuring clients have all the information
they need to make informed decisions and
understand what LTBI is and why it is important to
treat.

Claire Jansen
(DHD#10) does an outstanding
job with the many cases of TB she receives in
her county. She is knowledgeable and her
expertise in TB is amazing. She is super helpful
to others if needed.

Thank you to the TB Consultants –
Dr. Dickson
,
Dr. Hackert
,
Dr. Kissner
, and
Dr. Sunstrum
for
being available to share your expertise and offer
recommendations for tricky and not so tricky TB
related questions/situations.

Big kudos to
Claire Berlin
for all the behind
the scenes work on making this in-person
WTBD conference a success.

Thank you to all the
TB Testing Workshop
instructors
 for teaching workshops!

I am nominating
Karen Gorman
not only because of her hard work, but
the diligence, reliability, compassion, grace, and tenacity during this
difficult period. I appreciate and admire the way she always makes the
needs of our patients a priority. She literally carried the burden of TB
case management of one of the counties with highest TB cases even in
the midst of a pandemic with smiles and positivity. Always flexible with
the schedules of our patients. Let’s not forget every time we talk in the
morning, she says positive words like “EVERYTHING IS GOOD AND WE
ARE GOING TO HAVE A GOOD DAY.” I try to say it to her but she beats
me to it. This encourages me and lifts my spirit up. I say BIG KUDOS TO
KAREN GORMAN! Thank you so much for all you do, all you have done,
and all that you have continued to do.
