  1. Spring Recruitment Easy as 1, 2, 3 Easy as 1, 2, 3 1 2 3 STEP 1 STEP 2 STEP 3 PLAN THE EVENT REGISTER NEW MEMBERS INVITE FAMILIES Be at an easy to access location. Provide a fun, hands on experience. Consider when families are available. Have applications in hand. Activate your BeAScout pin & applications at: www.my.scouting.org. How youth want to be communicated with? How families want to be communicated with? Tip: It s important for families to join on the first night, they feel connected and attached to the Troop when they join. Example: Facebook posts & personal Scout to Friend invites. Example: Think of the local school or park after 6pm on Tue, Wed, Thu.

  2. Webelos Recruitment Most members of Troops started in Packs. Build the relationship with your nearby Packs so families know you want to help them continue Scouting. Support local Packs as a Troop Commit to at least one crossover ceremony. Attend a Blue & Gold Banquet. Invite on campout. Visit Den and Pack meetings to get to know Cub Scout parents and families. Contact Scouts who did not re-charter this spring or last. Your District Executive or Membership Chair can help with contact lists.

  3. Recruiting new (non-Cub) Scouts Key to Success Not enough Webelos (Only ~ 2 Webelos/Troop) Communicate with future Scout families the way you communicate with other non-Scouters. Think about the most effective communications for your social group. Be present in their social circle. (wear your activity shirt at other youth and community events.) Be present on social media and share pictures of fun and adventure. Ask your District Executive for social media and printed invites, at no cost to your unit. Avoid Scout terms so new families do not feel lost. Host your recruitment in the local neighborhood.

  4. Recruiting new (non-Cub) Scouts Key to Success Not enough Webelos (Only ~ 2 Webelos/Troop) Set a welcoming environment for new families. Think about how you are comfortable when meeting a new group. Have Scouts and Scouters present to help welcome new families. Consider greeters who are not in uniform to help new families fit in. Have a welcome packet that includes meetings, calendars, contacts, and costs. Have an activity that all youth can participate in. Keep the event light, laid back, and brief. Under 45 minutes

Identify the Spring Recruitment lead Set a Troop Recruitment Goal GOAL FOR CROSSOVER GOAL FOR SCHOOL RECRUITMENT Think about how many 5th and 6th graders are at your neighborhood elementary Schools, how many of them will you share Scouting with this year? Update your Digital Footprint Troop website up to date BeAScout Pin accurate and set to allow applications through www.my.scouting.org. Select Location for Recruitment Event(s) Date, Time Location

Key to Success Commit to welcome more families into Scouting Fun patrol activity; Keep it Reasonably Simple; Mix new boys in with scouts Plan a hands-on 30-minute Request Facebook targeted ads and invitation cards from your District Executive at least 3-weeks in advance. Invite potential new Scouts Prepare new family welcome packet Troop Calendar Contact list Troop Expenses and fundraising opportunities Plan for how new families can join you at summer camp this year
