  2. Documentation The data for a qualitative study most often are notes jotted down in the field or during an interview from which the original comments, observations, and feelings are reconstructed or text transcribed from audiotapes.

  3. Analysis and Theory Examining relationships is the centerpiece of the analytic process, because it allows the researcher to move from simple description of the people and settings to explanations of why things happened as they did with those people in that setting.

  7. Sample Interview Transcription Researcher: Do you see yourself as a leader? Yes. R: Why? Because I can do the things that I just talked to you about. R: (Laughs) ok. Um, I m gonna jump around just a little bit. So you said that um if you would have done things differently, you would have been a full-timer. So WHY is it that you re not pursuing a full-time position now? You know how old I am? R: No. (Both laugh) Wait, what was the senior citizen ? I m 67 years old. Is it time to go back to school and finish my Ph. D? Or is it time to continue to do what I m doing HERE, and adding to it uh by doing- by being the rep for the business world?
