Staphylococcus aureus, a Gram-positive cocci bacterium, possesses various cell wall-associated factors, toxins, and enzymes that contribute to its pathogenicity. The bacterium produces toxins such as hemolysins, leucocidin, and enterotoxins, leading to skin and soft tissue infections. Its virulence factors include hemolysin, sphingomyelinase, and surfactant action. Staphylococcus aureus can colonize various body sites, invade tissues via enzymes, evade host defenses, and cause metastatic spread. Understanding its mechanisms can aid in diagnosis and treatment strategies.
