4. I. SPIRITUAL WARFARE I. SPIRITUAL WARFARE When a person commits his life to Jesus Christ and desires to follow Him, through life, an entire ARRAY OF FORCE begin to seek to DESTROY that commitment and severe that person s relationship to Christ

5. II. OUR SPIRITUAL ENEMY: SATAN II. OUR SPIRITUAL ENEMY: SATAN A. His Origin Satan was one of GOD S ANGELS who decided that he wanted to TAKE God s place and become the RULER of the universe; thus his principle of sin was PRIDE.

6. II. OUR SPIRITUAL ENEMY: SATAN II. OUR SPIRITUAL ENEMY: SATAN A. His Origin As a result of his rebellion, his nature become CORRUPT and he became the ultimate source of all evil in the universe. As an enemy of God, Satan also became the enemy of any human being who wants to SERVE God. (1 Peter 5:8)

We do not need to DEFEAT Satan ourselves because Jesus Christ has defeated him and DELIVERED us from his power by dying for us on the cross. We will just let Satan know that we know (by faith) that he has NO POWER over us.

Satan and the Christian d. 2 Corinthians 2:6-11 emphasizes the importance of FORGIVENESS within the body of Christ for Satan wants to DESTROY the bond of LOVE among believers which is the most important PROOF that we are true DICIPLES.

Dealing with the Flesh If we are to live as Christ wants to, we must constantly put this part of our nature to DEATH by refusing to SUBMIT to its desires and instead subjecting ourselves to the INDWELLING Holy Spirit who is seeking to lead us into a life of holiness and RIGHTEOUSNESS. (Romans 8:4,12-14)

This is done by SETTING our minds on the things of the Spirit which means simply that we must learn more and more to give each moment of our thought life to God.

17. III. III. OUR SPIRITUAL ENEMY: THE FLESH OUR SPIRITUAL ENEMY: THE FLESH C. Walking in the Spirit This includes thinking over the TRUTHS of Scripture as well as PRAYING and giving praise and THANKSGIVING to God in our hearts continuously. (Galatians 5:16, Psalms 119:11, Ephesians 5:1-20)

We are here not to CONFORM to it but to see it TRANSFORMED by the power of the Gospel. (John 20:21, Matthew 28:19-20, 2 Cor. 5:20)

Our Weapons Paul emphasized that we do not wage war ACCORDING to the FLESH that is, with purely human strengths, but rather, we must learn to fight using God s DIVINELY POWER WEAPONS being strong in the LORD and in the strength of His might.
