Sharing Our Projects to Inspire Climate Action at School

Why is it important we share our projects with everyone at school?

Each sharing method will have
advantages and disadvantages.
Which methods do you think
would work best and why?
Think about:
the number of people who will see it
how interesting people will find it
how long it will take to make

Choose one way you’ll
share your project with the
school community!
Now l
et’s create it.
First write notes about your project for each question. Then have a go at writing a short news piece.

Switch Off Day was a huge success!
Year 5’s Zero Carbon Forever team have been working hard. We created
a project to help reduce our school’s carbon emissions. This is vital if we
want to tackle climate change.
Our project was to hold a switch off day. On the 16th May everyone in
school turned off all electrical items which weren’t absolutely necessary.
It was
phenomenal
! The day helped staff and pupils realise that we use
lots of energy every day. Switching off items, like the lights in the
classroom, for one day showed everyone there are many ways we can
reduce our energy use. A year 5 pupil said,
“I never realised we used so
much energy!”
Lots of classes want to continue turning off unneeded
items. This is great news for our planet!
We are really proud of what we achieved and can’t wait for our next
switch off day on 17th June. We’d love it if you joined us and tried a
switch off day at home too!
Can you spot the answers to the
six questions?
What words or phrases most
stand out to you?
How would you improve this
piece of writing?
Example writing
Who do we need to submit
our newsletter article to?
Who do we need to ask to
present our project in an
assembly?
Where should we put our
posters up?
How can we share our video?

Encouraging the sharing of projects at school can inspire teachers and students to tackle climate change, foster hope for the future, and celebrate hard work. Various methods like social media posts, presentations, and impactful conversations can be used to amplify the project's impact. Considering the advantages and disadvantages of each sharing method is crucial to maximize reach and engagement. Choosing the best way to broadcast the project's impact, such as through posters or videos, can further enhance its visibility within the school community. Planning a compelling message to convey the project's details and impact effectively is key to engaging the audience and spreading awareness about energy-saving initiatives.
