Seed Science Advisory Group Overview
Detailed information about the Seed Science Advisory Group (SSAG) including its members, functions, terms of reference, evaluations, and proposed adjustments to address overlaps with the Advanced Technology Committee (ATC). The SSAG plays a crucial role in linking fundamental research with practical applications to meet the needs of International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) members.

SSAG, Terms of Reference (defined December 2014) Developed in collaboration with ECOM, care taken to avoid overlap with ATC To provide a link between fundamental research and the use of that research to meet the needs of ISTA members. .in collaboration with any appropriate ISTA TCOMs, would identify appropriate ISTA laboratories to encourage their collaboration with the seed scientists and help develop the plans for a work programme, including the selection of appropriate seed material . (E. g. Prediction of normal germination using radicle emergence) To appraise evidence for techniques/equipment available for use in seed testing laboratories. To respond to requests from ECOM and TCOM Chairs for advice related to scientific issues.
SSAG To provide a link between fundamental research and the use of that research to meet the needs of ISTA members. To appraise evidence for techniques/equipment available for use in seed testing laboratories. To respond to requests from ECOM and TCOM Chairs for advice related to scientific issues. ATC To form a bridge between the world of research and development, and ISTA s other Technical Committees. To collect and interpret data and opinions on advanced technologies. To provide information on advanced technologies to the ISTA community. To chair or participate in research and tests of advanced technologies in cooperation with other Technical Committees and/or act as reviewers. To assist ISTA by formulating views of ongoing or future technological developments from a seed testing perspective
When the SSAG was established the role of the ATC and SSAG were clearly different, but they now overlap. Clarification / redefinition is clearly needed! A proposal has been put forward to the ECOM to deal with this situation, which we believe is to the benefit of both groups.
