Issues on Seed Availability Issues on Seed Availability Most of the NE sates do not have their own seed production agency. They may come forward for doing long term MoU with NSC or other National Level Seed Producing agencies for supplying seed production for their State at least one year in advance. Indent of newly released varieties should come to DA&FW as soon released and notified from States for which they are suitable. States like MP, Rajasthan, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, , Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Assam shall ensure that indented seed should be 100% lifted.
Issues on Seed Availability Issues on Seed Availability All states shall give district-wise seed requirement and availability on seednet.gov.in portal. The information w.r.t. Zonal Seed Review Meetings, Breeder Seed Indent and Lifting, Seed Rolling Plan should be filled up on MIS available on seednet.gov.in portal on timely basis. Focus on increase in share of seed availability from Government Organization shall be given. States should do robust seed Planning with the mechanism of Seed Rolling Plan in advance to ensure availability of Seed to farmers on timely basis.
DNA Finger Printing Facility 1. 2. Grow Out Test (GOT) conventional and time taking method for testing of genetic purity of Seeds. DNA finger printing is advance, accurate and rapid method for testing of genetic purity of Seeds & Planting Material. DNA finger printing for all the released varieties/ parental line of hybrids is necessary to minimize the cases of mis-branding of Seeds, germplasm etc. to strengthen quality control regime in the Country. At present assistance @ Rs.70 lakh each available purchase of equipment for DNA Lab under SMSP. It is proposed to establish DNA Finger Printing Labs. at State level to ensure quality seeds across the country. Assistance @Rs.120 lakh for equipment, Rs. 75 lakh for building and Rs.25 lakh for contractual staff is proposed in EFC of SMSP for each DNA labs. 3. 4. 5. 6.
Traceability of Seeds Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare proposed compulsory Bar-Code using Global Standards on the Seed packets/labels. The Bar-Code will have nine points information in respect of various seed certification standards/quality parameters and linked to the central repository to provide following information in digitized form.

GENOME EDITING A powerful new approach for enhancing productivity, resilience and quality of crops. Only a native plant gene is altered for better phenotype. No introduction of foreign gene or foreign protein. After discussion with stakeholders, RCGM submitted the draft guidelines of Genome Edited Products to GEAC for approval. The technology is well accepted World wide without bio-safety study.
Genome Editing Projects in India Developing new varieties through genome edited technology for diseases resistance, quality improvement stress tolerant and herbicide tolerant . Diseases resistance: Papaya, Tomato, Rice, Chilli . Herbicide tolerance: Soybean, Gram, Rice. Stress tolerant: Rice Quality improvement: Mustard, Cotton, Maze, Tobacco, Tomato, Rice and Foxtail millet.
