CONTEXT PROCESS SUMMARY OF INDC CHALLENGES PARIS & NDCs
Saint Lucia UNFCCC 1993 INDC towards 2015 Agreement COP 19, Decision 1/CP.19 Effective post-2020 Support Article 2 of UNFCCC
The ultimate objective of this Convention and any related legal instruments that the Conference of parties may adopt is to achieve, in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Convention, stabilization of greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with climate system. Such a level should be achieved within a time-frame sufficient to allow ecosystems to adapt naturally to climate change, to ensure that food production is not threatened and to enable economic development to proceed in a sustainable manner.

GHG mitigation projections to 2030 were estimated with 2010 emissions as the baseline against which growth and the impact of mitigation measures were calculated. The drivers of emissions growth considered were economic growth, changes in population, energy supply and prices, the adoption of new technologies and the impact of government policies and measures.

Time frame 2030, with intermediate target in 2025 Type of commitment Absolute economy-wide emissions reductions using a 2010 baseline and based on specific sector interventions against the BAU scenario. Baseline 758 GgCO2-eqin 2025 and 816 GgCO2-eq in 2030.
Proposed Interventions Energy: Energy Efficient Buildings Energy Efficient Appliances Water Distribution Network Efficiency Electricity Generation 35% Renewable Energy Target by 2025 and 50% by 2030 based on geothermal, wind and solar energy sources. Improvements Distribution and Transmission Efficiency Transport and a mix of to Grid Efficient Vehicles Improved Public Transit and Expanded
Estimated Impact of Emissions Reductions interventions Conditions Reduction of 121 GgCO2-eq by 2025 Reduction of 188 GgCO2 - eq by 2030. While national efforts are underway and will continue to be exerted toward emission reduction, external support is a pre-requisite to achieving the emissions reduction targets set out in this iNDC. Implementation will be reviewed every 5 years Reviews

Each Party shall prepare, communicate and maintain successive nationally determined contributions that it intends to achieve. Parties shall pursue domestic mitigation measures, with the aim of achieving the objectives of such contributions.
Each Partys successive NDC will represent a progression beyond the Party s then current NDC and reflect its highest possible ambition, reflecting its common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities, in the light of different national circumstances.
Each Party shall communicate a NDC every five years in accordance with decision 1/CP.21
