Rules of changing imperative. Rule-1(a)If the reported speech is imperative sentence then the reporting verb of it will change into order/command at the place of order.It will change in to request at the place of request.It will change into advise at the place of request.Otherwise it will change in to tell. (b) To will be used at the place of Inverted comma. (c)Then will be the last point of the sentence from the main verb of the Reported speech.
Examples Direct: He said to me, Please give me your book Indirect: He requested me to give him my book. Direct: The teacher said to the boy, Do not tell a lie. Indirect: The teacher advised the boy not to tell a lie. Direct: The captain said to the solders, March forward. Indirect The captain ordered the solders to march forward. Direct: The man said to me, Do not beat the Dog. Indirect: The man advised me not to beat the dog.
Rule -2 If the reported speech is negative then to will sit after not .Do will venished. Examples- Direct:He said to me, Do not tell a lie. Indirect:He advised me not to tell a lie. Direct:He said to me, Don,t do it. Indirect:He told me not to do it.
Rule -3 If the reported speech indicate address then the structure will be as belows Structure:Addressing+object of reporting verb(If there have)+as+the person whom has been addressed+subject of reporting verb+reporting verb +to +from the main verb of the reported speech to end.
Examples Direct:He said to them, Friends,help me Indirect:Addressing them as friends,he requested them to help him.
Rule -4 If there is Sir in the reported speech of imperative sentence then it will change into respectfully or with respect. Examples- Direct:The boy said to the teacher, Sir,lend me your book,please. Indirect:The boy requested the teacher respectfully to lend him his book. Direct:The boy said to the teacher, Pleaseexcuse me, sir. Indirect:The boy requested the teacher respectfully to excuse him.
Rule-5(a) Use of Let If there is us after Let in the reported speech then the structure will be as below- Subject+propose/proposed+that+they/we+should+the last end of the sentence from the main verb of the reported speech. Examples: Direct:He said to me, Letus go out for a walk. Indirect:He proposed to me that we should go out for a walk. Direct:We said to the chairman, Letus drop the matter. Indirect We proposed to the chairman that we should drop the matter
Rule-5(b) If the Let does not denote any proposal then the reporting verb will not change. Instead of comma there will be that+subject of reporting verb + might+last end of sentence from the main vderb of the reported speech. Examples: Direct:Kamal said to me, Let him say whatever he likes. Indirect:Kamal told me that he might say whatever he liked.
