ACCS ST1/2
 
 
From August
2021, QIP:
 
For ARCP:
 
ES to review a Quality Improvement assessment tool (QIAT)
   completed by trainee
 
ES to sign this off
 
QIAT varies for levels of training :
-
Primary QIAT tool (ACCS ST1 & 2)
-
Intermediate QIAT tool (EM ST3 & 4)
-
Higher QIAT tool (EM ST5 & 6)
 
Part A – Trainee to complete
 
Part B – Trainer to complete
 
Prior to ARCP:
 
Trainee would upload their EM QIAT form for the ES to have a look (better to discuss this prior)
 
ES will sign off trainee work and completed QIAT prior to completion of STR
 
Entrustment decision
This is reviewed along with all other LOs at ARCP
 
ACCS ST1 & 2 – Contribute to Departmental QI
 
Evidence :

Involvement in a QIP / data collection for a QIP (in EM get involved with RCEM QIP – Data collection/audit)

Attendance at local QI  / audit meeting

Challenges facing ST1/2 given the QIAT form:
 
Certain parts of QIAT are difficult to complete unless actual involvement in a QIP
 
Discuss the QIAT with trainee and what would be expected at the end of the year
 
Involvement in a QI / or multiple CG activity and trainee shows evidence and able to describe:
-
What a QI activity is including importance of team work
-
Basic understanding of a QI methodology
-
Stake holder analysis
-
6 domains of Quality in health care
-
Personal qualities and pros/cons (online personality test)
 
 
 
 
 
Going forward:
 
A
n element of common-sense approach  (Acceptable for level of training ST1 – 
ST2
)
 
Trainee understand the basics of QIP and able to use a recognised methodology
 
Demonstrate longitudinal learning from ST1 – ST2
 
Do not want it to be overtly cumbersome
 
Trainee’s need to enjoy what they do
 
Uniform throughout every training unit
