Who attacks our chestnut trees?
It is a small butterfly(Cameraria ohridella)!It
attacks chestnut trees everywhere.When it
attacks this tree, leaves fade and fall on the
ground.
Trees try to regain their lost balance and
bloom again in autumn. In our climatic conditions
trees have no chance of producing fruits. What's
more, subsequent flowering weakens the trees.
Interesting facts about these pests
-
The pupae of this butterfly can survive in winter conditions
-The first adults of this species appear at the end of April
-The butterfly first appeared in Macedonia in 1985
-
Adults lay eggs one at a time along the main innervation of the
leaves.

The first-stage larvae bite into the leafs.

This creates
insect’s feeding grounds, called mines, that reach 3-4 cm in
length.
We had a lot of information.
Now it’s time for some pictures!!!
