Welcome to President s Training Or: How the Heck did I get this job? And what do I do now?
INTRODUCTIONS: Please tell everyone: Your name Your Club How long have you been a Lion Positions held Something very few people know about you What you hope to get out of today
As President of Club you serve as Chief Executive Officer and have certain duties to perform: - Provide Leadership within club and represent club in community - Preside over meetings - Call club to action in fellowship and service activities - Appoint and Co-ordinate efforts of Chairpersons - Become part of Zone and possibly District meetings - Manage Leadership Succession
What are the qualities of a Good Leader: - Someone who takes initiative - Someone with a vision - Someone who can strategize, plan and accomplish goals to achieve that vision - Effective communicator must listen not only to who are speaking but to those who are silent - Committed and Passionate - Able to handle people and situations well - Make use of various experiences gained from other involvements
Officers of Club: President - Chief Executive Officer 1st Vice President serves as leader ready to step in for the President, assesses club activities and is ready to step in as President in net fiscal year Secretary Keeps minutes of club s official proceedings , accounts for membership roster and acts as liaison between club, district and international Treasurer serves as main bookkeeper for clubs financial accounts including collection and deposits and making payments. Also prepares financial reports.
Membership Chair member who brings new members into the club Retention Ambassador member who job is to keep members engaged and involved Communications Officer member who keeps others informed about club and activities Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF) Club Co-Ordinator member who educates others on the activities of our foundation and encourages support. Lion Tamer member who is responsible for all of club physical assets and prepares for meetings Tail Twister member who promotes fellowship and fun during meetings and club activities
Keys to Meeting Success: - Have an agenda and stick to it. Share it with club prior to meeting to allow for input - Start and end on time Value the time of each member - Meetings need to be positive and allow for everyone to participate. Sometimes silence can be a strong message - Transparency in very important. Secretary Minutes and Treasurer s Reports should be distributed and understood - President should encourage discussion, but must also keep group on task and maintain order - Look for ways to make fellowship part of meeting - Look for ways to recognize accomplishments of members
Tips to increase involvement: - Considering focusing on involvement instead of attendance at meetings - Make sure dates, time and location are convenient to members - Make sure the meeting place is comfortable and meets the needs of members - Feature an interesting program or meaningful activity - Invite potential members and encourage them to bring friends - Keep potential members informed of ongoing service projects - Use various forms of communication to keep members and potential members - well-informed Facebook, twitter, mass texts -
What you need to be aware of: Secretary : - needs to keep minutes, - report membership numbers and service activities to International - ensure that emails and phone numbers for members are up-to-date with district - take attendance - present minutes to club Treasurer: - needs to present a budget - pay the bills - present a financial report to the members on a regular basis - ensure that membership dues are paid to International ($21.50 US per member twice a year) and District ($21.50 per member twice a year) - maintain 2 bank accounts one - for public money (Activity) and one for club money (Administration) Committee Chairs: - brief club on progress of project or service - line up volunteers as needed - present financial report before and after project completion

Proper Protocol: During these activities: Installation of Officers Induction of New Members Visit of District Governor Team Member Visit of Special Guest - Make guests welcome - Consider a program - Consider appointing a master or mistress of ceremonies - As President say a few words of welcome - Address guests with proper title such as District Governor or Past International Director
How is your club doing during Covid Pandemic? What changes have you made to your service? What changes have you made to meeting? Have you made arrangements to meet virtually and does that restrict input? Do you still meet in person and does that mean that you have shut out some members from having a voice? Challenge to meet safely and making sure everyone has a voice
