STS 1005: Praising God For His Faithfulness
Memory Verse Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations (Psalm 100:4,5) Text: Psalms 100:1-5; 101:1-8; 102:1-28; 103:1-22; 104:1-35; 105:1-45; 106:1-48
Introduction Text: Psalms 100:1 Text: Psalms 100:1- -5; 101:1 102:1 102:1- -28; 103:1 28; 103:1- -22; 104:1 105:1 105:1- -45; 106:1 45; 106:1- -48 5; 101:1- -8; 22; 104:1- -35; 48 8; 35; The Psalms in focus, started with the exhortation to make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands Psm 100:1. God demands and deserves our praise because of who He is and the numerous blessings we receive from him. King David portrayed an example required for true praise and said I will behave myself in a perfect way Psm 101:2. Jesus our perfect example was also holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners.. (Heb 7:26) The need for perfection for every Christian youth and leader cannot be overemphasized, especially in the times we live in. God s covenant and promises remain sure and steadfast. He is committed to His word and preservation of the saints. Despite the shortcomings of Israel and the repercussion they faced, God repeatedly delivered them and was faithful towards them. For these, the psalmist blessed the Lord who remained merciful.
Instances of praises offered by God s people PRAISING GOD FOR HIS MANIFOLD GOODNESS AND FAITHFULNESS Israelites crossing the red sea Return of the Ark to the city of Jerusalem Jehoshaphat and the Israelites at the battlefront against Moab, Ammon and Mount Seir Text: Psalms 100:5, 101:1-8; 103:1-5; 104:1-5; 106:13; 34:13; Isaiah 63:7-9; Acts 16:25) As Christian youths, we have an obligation to serve God. Despite the opposition and persecution this may bring, we must remain faithful and glad at all times. Paul and Silas prayed and sang praises unto God while in prison (Act 16:25) God is honored when we his creatures serve him with joy and gladness. Come before his presence with singing Do not be in haste to itemize your request and forget the importance of offering praise and thanksgiving. This strengthens our spirit and focuses our mind on God Praises and thanksgiving should be embedded in our service to God at home and in church. God alone deserves our praise. His past and present faithfulness should move us to hallow his name and be aware of his presence all times. Results of praise and thanksgiving Renewal of our lives God Himself revealed to those who thirst for him Execution of righteousness and Judgement for the oppressed. Forgiveness and protection
Healing from all diseases Redemption from destruction PERSONAL COMMITMENT TO FAITHFULNESS AND EXPECTATIONS IN PRAYER Benefits of praising God in purity include: Loving kindness and mercies Text: Psalm 102:1-28; 103:1-22 The Psalmist s confidence in God s power to deliver him from trouble led to his firm resolve to be faithfully committed to godliness. As Paul exhorted, Christian youths should make it a priority to be committed to godliness and separate from evil. (1Thes 5:22) Job also maintained his stand despite affliction my righteousness I hold fast.. (Job 27:6). Likewise, Christian youths should have unwavering confidence in God, whose promises are sure. The Psalmist calls on everyone to bless the Lord ..But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting to them that fear him ..and to those that remember his commandments to do them Psalm 103:17,18 Good things for our satisfaction and renewal
Loss of Gods presence and Power Lack of support and assistance PERSISTENT FAITHFULNESS OF GOD DESPITE ISREAL S UNFAITHFULNESS No focus and direction Consequences of grieving God include: Loss of grace, glory and fellowship Text: Psalms 104:1-35; 105:1-45; 106:1-48 Just as the writer of these psalms, Christian youths are admonished to give God the glory for his wonderful works of creation, providence, dominion and bounty to all creatures. Israel as a nation had a special covenant with God, and enjoyed special privileges and intervention, yet many of them died because of murmuring and despising God s servant. We should not in haste forget God s past works, neither grieve God like the children of Israel as this results in untold negative experiences. (Psalm 106:40,41) When we repent and return to the Lord, He will have mercy and save us. Our prayer should be like the psalmist Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the heathen, to give thanks unto thy holy name, and to triumph in thy praise. Blessed be the God of Israel. Forfeiture of eternity in heaven Loss of divine favor and preservation
