Final messages and reflections for the future
•
Patients in Europe have the right to better care and better overall
cancer control
•
We need to aim at better cancer care and cancer management
close to where patients live, this is their right and need
•
Cross-border mobility is extremely important for the following
reasons:
•
Convergence of quality of cancer care in Europe
•
Streamlining and implementing guidelines
•
Enhancing collaboration, education and training of health
professionals
•
Especially smaller EU MSs would strongly benefit from
enhanced transnational collaboration

Cancer patients need to obtain timely, high quality
comprehensive cancer care, provided by the
competent structure in their own country and/or
beyond, based on their needs and the respective
treatment required.
Activities focusing on standardizing cancer care in Europe include quality assurance of screening programs, defining survivorship, establishing Comprehensive Cancer Control Networks, addressing socio-economic inequalities, and promoting public health genomics. The European Cancer Patient Coalition emphasizes the development of European Reference Networks for rare and pediatric cancers, offering opportunities for treatment guidelines, education, and training. Cross-border mobility of patients and professionals is facilitated by extending ERNs, networking CCCs, and establishing new transnational cancer networks. The upcoming Joint Action CRANE will play a key role in establishing the EU Network of Comprehensive Cancer Centres.
