Threatened (breeding)
In 1950 over 500 nests
along the coastline*
In 1974 only 50 nests
remained*
In 1993 200 nests along
the coastline*
Today over 600 nesting
pairs and growing!

Osprey (
Pandion haliaetus
)
 
SJTA recognized that Osprey
mortality was rising due to
bird strikes on the ACE;
SJTA worked with advertising
companies to install
deterrents to existing
billboards along the ACE;
In 2019 as part of READI
Program, SJTA started
installing Osprey Nesting
Platforms in and around
Atlantic City.

The South Jersey Transportation Authority's Osprey Nesting Platforms Initiative aims to protect and increase the population of Osprey birds along the AC Expressway. Through installing nesting platforms and promoting environmental stewardship, the program is successful in enhancing Osprey conservation efforts in the region.
