Laws Governing Driver Licenses A motorist who operates a vehicle must always carry license, registration, insurance Altering a driver license or showing an altered license loss of driving privilege- $1000 fine and/or up to 6 months in jail. Getting a license illegally- $200-$500 and/or 30-90 of jail. Any change of address must be reported to the MVC within 1 week Any name change must be reported to the MVC within 2 weeks

  11. The Graduated Driver License New Jersey implemented a multi-stage driver licensing system knows as the Graduated Driver License (GDL) Program. The system gradually introduces driving privileges to first time drivers, extends their practice driving time and requires a minimum age of 18 in order to receive an unrestricted, basic driver license.
