COMPERING Meaning: conducting a programme Compere: the person who conducts the programme; also called anchor Qualities of a good Compere: Understand the nature of the programme Know the people involved Know other similar events Know the basics of events Prepare for unexpected changes Language abilities required for compering (attentive, witty, adaptable to any situation, study of the area/ theme of the programme, related information gathering)
Script of Compering Script of compering- important part of planning and preparation, must be ready before execution Parts of Script: Greetings Introduction- polite, stock expressions & additions as per need Requesting and Inviting Apologizing (rarely, only when needed) Complimenting Quotations Concluding

Solved Example Compering Script for Annual Prize Distribution Programme Namaste, and a warm welcome to everyone. On behalf of Mahila Mahavidyalaya, I welcome you all to most awaited function in a student s life prize distribution. Every student tries his very best in studies, sports, cultural activities and various competitions and there is a strong wish to succeed, win a prize. Today is the day you were waiting for over the last one year. Announcement 1: I request all the dignitaries to light the auspicious lamp. Announcement 2: Thank you everybody. I now request our Art-Circle students to sing the welcome song under the guidance of Music teacher Smt. Swara Joshi. Announcement 3: Thank you for the melodious song. It has set the tone for the function. Announcement 4: I now request our Principal, Dr. Smt. Deshpande to deliver the introductory speech.
Example continued Announcement 5: Thank you madam. I now request the Convener of the programme Shri. Patil S. K. to introduce the Chief Guest of today s programme and request Principal Madam to felicitate the Chief Guest. Announcement 6: Thank you Patil Sir and Deshpande Madam.
